Retirement doesn’t mean leaving baseball in the rearview. For retired pitcher Adam Wainwright, it means more opportunities to be around the game he loves. Starting on opening day, March 28, Wainwright will be an on-air analyst for the MLB Network.

Former St. Louis Cardinals All-Star pitcher Adam Wainwright ended his career with the Cardinals at the end of the 2023 season. Wainwright won’t be done completely with the Cardinals, however, as he will be joining the MLB Network as an on-air analyst starting March 28, as stated by the network on Tuesday.
Wainwright’s impressive 19 years ended at 200-218. He had a 3.53 ERA in 18 major league seasons. The two-time World Series champion and three-time All-Star earned his 200th career win in the Milwaukee Brewers last September. While a full-time pitcher, Wainwright also had the pleasure of being a color commentator for the 2020 NLDS, 2021 ALDS, and 2023 ALDS for FOX Sports’ coverage.
When talking about the shift in his career, Wainwright said, “I love the game of baseball, and I really enjoy talking about the chess match that goes on between the pitcher and the hitter. Hopefully, my experience on the field will allow me the opportunity to share the game I love in a unique and deep way, bringing viewers closer to the game.”
What Else Will Adam Wainwright Do?
Adam Wainwright’s retirement is going to be a busy one. Not only will he start as an analyst next month, he will also be an analyst for Fox Sports. He signed a multi-year contract starting in 2024. It will cover both regular games and post-season games. This will include the much-anticipated 2024 London Series, in which Wainwright will cover the first game of the Phillies versus the Mets on June 8.
“Adam is a perfect example of everything that is good in this game,” MLB Network analyst Mark DeRosa said. “From pitching in the game’s biggest moments to impacting lives off the field, this is one of the great guys our sport has to offer. MLB Network got way better today.” Mark DeRosa was Wainwright’s teammate on the Cardinals in 2009 and also his manager in the World Baseball Classic.
The 2024 Season
Adam Wainwright is expected to be an experienced addition to the MLB Network crew. he will make his debut on the game between the Cardinals and the Los Angeles Dodgers on March 28. He will also be working on the Cardinals game against the San Francisco Giants on June 20. That game will be in Birmingham, Alabama, at Rickwood Field.
