ABC has recently released its television schedule for week one of the 2024 season and it is loaded. The network does not have a game scheduled for the week zero slate (yes, that’s what it’s called), but they make up for that on Labor Day weekend.
The ABC/ESPN family of networks have exclusive rights to all of the Southeastern Conference games, starting with the 2024 season. On May 30, the first three weeks of start times were announced. On June 11, the remainder of the season’s approximate times were announced.
Exact times have not been announced yet, as the networks will have the ability to use start time windows until six days before kickoff. The start time windows are as follows:
Early Game: 12-1 pm ET
Afternoon: 3:30-4:30 pm ET
Night: 6-8 pm ET
The ABC week one college football schedule features some of college football’s heavy hitters. Let’s get amped up as we wait until late August.
ABC Noon Kickoff: Clemson Tigers vs. Georgia Bulldogs
The college football season on ABC kicks off on August 31 with a noon tilt featuring the Clemson Tigers and the Georgia Bulldogs at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. Georgia opens up as the favorite to win the SEC and make it to the college football playoff.
Clemson will try to bounce back from a disappointing 2023 season and challenge for the ACC crown. Cade Klubnik and his wide receivers will need to be more consistent if they want to get back to the college football playoffs.
ABC Afternoon Matchup: Miami Hurricanes at Florida Gators
The afternoon contest at 3:30 pm ET will see the revamped Miami Hurricanes traveling to Gainesville to take on the Florida Gators. Miami was busy in the transfer portal, snagging QB Cam Ward, RB Damien Martinez, and WR Samuel Brown.
Florida has had a bit of a dramatic offseason and head coach Billy Napier will attempt to survive another season. QB Graham Mertz will begin the season as the starter, but incoming five-star freshman DJ Lagway lurks if/when the Gators struggle and fans get restless.
ABC Primetime Saturday Night: Notre Dame Fighting Irish at Texas A&M Aggies
The primetime 7:30 pm ET Saturday night game will pit the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and Texas A&M Aggies against each other inside Kyle Field. Texas A&M hired Mike Elko after Jimbo Fisher was fired this offseason. Can they get to the upper echelon of the SEC? A win over Notre Dame would go a long way.
The Fighting Irish grabbed transfer QB Riley Leonard from Duke, as well as WR Kris Mitchell and Beaux Collins out of the portal. Notre Dame is a legitimate college football playoff contender and A&M is one of the toughest games on their schedule.
ABC Sunday Kickoff: USC Trojans vs LSU Tigers
The ABC week one slate of games finishes off with the USC Trojans and LSU Tigers in Las Vegas. USC enters the post-Caleb Williams era with new QB Miller Moss. Moss had a record-breaking bowl game with six touchdowns, but can he be what the Trojans need in 2024?
LSU is also breaking in a new QB, as Garrett Nussmeier takes over for the departed Jayden Daniels. Mussmeier is a highly capable QB and will have the returning Kyren Lacy, Mason Taylor, and incoming Liberty transfer CJ Daniels as his primary targets.
