Aaron Judge Smashes Home Runs 50 and 51 In Victory

The New York Yankees Aaron Judge continues to make history.

New York Yankees Centerfielder Aaron Judge joined elite company by hitting his 50th and 51st home runs of the season in the Yankees’ 10-3 victory over the Colorado Rockies Sunday afternoon. In his first at-bat in the bottom of the first inning, Aaron Judge demolished the baseball with a towering HR to dead center.

The historic home run made Aaron Judge one of only five players in MLB history to hit 50 or more home runs in three seasons. The others are Sammy Sosa, Mark McGwire, and Babe Ruth, who all accomplished the feat four times, and Alex Rodriguez, who Aaron Judge joins with three.

Yankees Bats Finally Wake Up

After winning game one in the series on Friday 3-0 and scoring only two runs in a 9-2 loss on Saturday, the Yankees offense erupted on Sunday. Not only did Judge hit two home runs, but Juan Soto, Giancarlo Stanton, and Gleyber Torres joined in on the dinger fest. The power of the Yankees lineup was on full display in the seventh inning. Soto, Aaron Judge, and Stanton went back-to-back to back, allowing Yankees announcer Michael Kay to exclaim his trademark “See ya” in consecutive at-bats.

Color analyst and former Yankee great Right Fielder Paul O’Neil had warned Kay in the pre-game show that he might need to warm up his vocal cords. O’Neil’s words proved to be prophetic after five Yankees homers against the woeful Rockies pitching staff.

Baseball Put In Perspective

A freak accident in the bottom of the fifth inning put the game of baseball in its proper perspective. Stanton was at bat with two men on base. An inside pitch jammed him. He turned on it, hitting a bloop single into left. The bat shattered and the broken barrel struck home plate umpire Nick Marley in the head. Slow motion video seemed to indicate that the blunt part of the bat had hit him in the side of his face. He did seem to avoid being hit by the sharp, jagged end of the broken bat. Marley went down immediately.

To his credit, Marley came back up to his knees to watch the play develop on the field before sinking back to the ground. The game was delayed for several minutes as Marley was attended to. His neck was stabilized as a precautionary measure, and he was then carted off the field on a medical gurney for further examination.

Aaron Judge Marches On

Baseball history was made on Sunday. New York Yankees history was made Sunday and the game of baseball was put into perspective. Aaron Judge will add to his home run total and hopefully, Nick Marley will be back behind the plate calling balls and strikes very soon.
