In Styrian GP, Ducati’s Francesco Bagnaia demonstrated his prowess by beating his closest MotoGP title rival, the formidable Jorge Martin. Moreover, this victory was not only the seventh of the season for him, but he also was successful in regaining the advantage in the standings. The gap between the Italian rider and Martin is only five points now.
The Austrian Grand Prix took place at Spielberg’s Red Bull Ring. The track is characterized by terrific turns and other uncompromising sections.
Bagnaia Overtakes Martin
Given that managing tire pressures is critical when out front, especially on the circuits like Spielberg, Bagnaia fully understood that he had to make a move before his rivals did. But in the second lap, he did it at turn one, where he applied superb braking that helped him overtake Martin and move into the lead. At turn nine, Martin tried to make a countermove almost instantaneously, but by going deep into the corners, he managed to maintain his lead. Until about the middle of the race, the two riders engaged themselves in a close race move within fractions of a second.
Martin put pressure and tried to overtake him several times, but Bagnaia counterattacked and managed to keep his opponent at bay. This shift was evident as the race progressed, and one could tell that Bagnaia had the upper hand. Finally, in the last 14 laps, Martin’s rhythm appeared to drop as he recorded lap times of 1:30. That was not the case with Bagnaia, who managed to steadily increase the gap on the Spaniard.
As the day progressed, the prospect of rain grew closer but never arrived, and with this, Bagnaia’s route to the championship crown became clearer. Finally, he crossed the finish line in first place two seconds before Martin.
Bastianini Takes Third, Marquez Fourth

Another Ducati factory rider, Enea Bastianini, was aggressive in the race and managed to get into the third position on the first lap. Nonetheless, Bastianini could not sustain his late-race speed, eventually crossing the finish line 7 seconds behind Francesco Bagnaia.
Marc Marquez did well to finish the race after a poor start from his third position start. An uninterested front holeshot device pushed Marquez down in the race, forcing him to crash with Franco Morbidelli’s Pramac Ducati. He went off at turn 1 and rejoined the race in the 13th position. However, the six-time champion demonstrated his ability and desire to fight for the win by settling quickly and moving up to fourth place by lap 18.
KTM and Aprilia Struggle as Ducati Dominates
Brad Binder managed to put KTM into fifth place on Austrian soil, a fierce effort. Nevertheless, the RC16 was defeated by the powerful Ducatis, as Binder never had a fair chance at a podium spot after starting in 12th place. Marco Bezzecchi finished sixth in the VR46 Ducati, and Maverick Vinales was the only Aprilia rider in the top 10, finishing seventh after a thrilling duel with his teammate Aleix Espargaro. Espargaro, who was pushed back to the ninth position by Morbidelli, found himself battling with the lower half of the top ten grouping after a collision with Marquez in the early part of the race.
