Joao Mendes is excited about his new journey at Turf Moor over the next two years. He will join his Brazilian brothers Lucas Pires and Vitinho at Burnley. A picture of him in what seems to be Burnley signing Mendes went viral on social media. In early 2023, Mendes joined Barcelona’s youth academy, La Masia. It was his next step after playing in the youth category of some Brazilian clubs, such as Cruzeiro, Flamengo, and Vasco da Gama. Now, he kicks off his career with Burnley in Lancashire. The 19-year-old has not been on a first-team yet. However, he has experience training with his senior colleagues in Barcelona.

Born on February 25, 2005, Joao Mendes is the son of two-time FIFA World Player of the Year Ronaldinho and Janaina Mendes. 14 years later, Mendes signed a contract with the popular apparel brand Nike, indicating how much such brands hoped he inherited his father’s soccer talent.

Ronaldinho expressed how much joy he felt when Mendes decided to walk in his father’s steps by joining Barca in 2023. He claimed that Barcelona is part of his life, and his son joining the football club is a testament to this. During his time with Barcelona FC, Joao Mendes only played in a couple of matches – a friendly match against the Red Devils and at the Mediterranean International Cup.

Burnley Secures Football Royalty

Burnley has signed Mendes in hopes that he can play his role in helping the Clarets win the Championship title just like they did in the 2022/23 season. The football club has started on the right foot following its 4-1 victory over Luton Town in their first match of the season.

The club’s manager, Scott Parker, was impressed with Burnley’s debut match, especially with how the team came together to execute the game plan.

They executed very, very well and, of course, a really positive result as well, which was very pleasing.” – Scott Parker, Burnley’s New Manager.
