Israel Adesanya Fights for his African Pride

Israel Adesanya: Fighting for African Pride

Israel Adesanya is one of the three legendary fighters of Africa. Dricus du Plessis insulted the home country of Israel, Adesanya, before the fight. The UFC held the face-off of both fighters before the fight to promote the UFC. Things were going well at the beginning of all the face-offs, but it was all disturbed when they both began targeting each other’s personalities and brands. A cultural event would start in the main event of UFC 305, as du Plessis also targeted the belts won by the African fighters.

Beautiful Child-Hood of Israel Adesanya

Israel Adesanya: Beautiful Child-Hood. Dricus du Plessis

Adesanya, who has fondly recalled his “beautiful childhood” in Lagos before moving to New Zealand at age 10, has accused Du Plessis of disrespecting the ‘African Kings.’ When all three held UFC belts, this title was given to the 35-year-old, along with Kamaru Usman and Francis Ngannou.

“Did those belts ever go to Africa?” Du Plessis said this in public, as he is also an African champion, plus the first title holder in January. The 30-year-old believes that because Adesanya, Usman, and Ngannou live and train overseas, they have less right to call themselves African champions. After Du Plessis defeated Robert Whittaker in July last year, he faced Israel Adesanya in the octagon, which one commentator called “the battle for Africa.”

Israel Adesanya as African Champion

Israel Adesanya, who trains in New Zealand, has said that defeating Du Plessis is more vital than reclaiming the middleweight title he had twice before. According to Du Plessis, he is a genuine African athlete as he is based on the continent. This fight is not merely for pride but for the development of MMA in Africa, which has been seen in the UFC’s CEO, Dana White’s plan to stage the events there.

According to coach John Anene at the Wellness Martial Arts Academy in Lagos’ National Stadium, many fighters desire to follow in the footsteps of Israel Adesanya and Usman, who is also referred to as the ‘Nigerian Nightmare’. Although MMA is not yet booming in Nigeria, it is on the rise. The country lacks a structure to develop fighters in key aspects such as striking and groundwork.

Beautiful Ending of the Fight

Although the tensions between both fighters rose to high heights and they insulted each other very much, at the end of the day, the UFC is a business. Dricus du Plessis won the fight and defended his title in the main event. After the win, Dricus apologized to Israel Adesanya and clarified that he never meant to insult Izzy and that he never will. The UFC is a sport, and they are all fighters, and trash-talking is all part of the business.

Izzy also had good words for du Plessis. He also accepted his mistakes in the Octagon when the champion took him down. They both shook hands and respected each other. By respecting each other, Izzy and Dricus proved that they were great warriors in the Main event.
