Israel Adesanya Brought to Tears in UFC 305 Press Conference

Israel Adesanya Brought to Tears in UFC 305

Israel Adesanya will fight Dricuss Du Plessis in the main event of UFC 305. They did the face-off before the event to promote UFC and are now set to go to the Octagon. Both are great fighters who will give each other a tough time. Israel Adesanya is a challenger for the middleweight title, and Dricuss is the title holder of the middleweight championship.

Israel Adesanya has also won a championship title before, but he was not able to maintain it. Now, because of his experience and technique, he has a higher chance of winning. In a recent press conference, Israel Adesanya was brought to tears because of Dricuss’s trash-talking about his past life.

Increasing Tensions Between Fighters

Israel Adesanya: Increasing Tensions

Dricus du Plessis and Israel Adesanya were mostly respectful toward each other during the early part of UFC 305 fight week. But that quickly changed at Friday’s press conference. In an intense moment, Adesanya was visibly upset and even shed tears as the two middleweight fighters got into a heated argument in Perth, Australia. The clash brought back the same debate about what defines a true African champion, which originally sparked their rivalry.

The tension escalated when Adesanya was asked if he would take the championship belt back to Africa if he beat du Plessis. In response, du Plessis took a jab at Adesanya’s upbringing, referring to a 2020 ESPN interview where Adesanya mentioned that he didn’t learn to bath himself until he was eight years old when he insisted on doing it without the help of the family’s domestic workers. Dricuss Du Plessis mocked Israel Adesanya more and said, “Are you taking the servants with you when you’re going back [to Africa with the belt]? Are you taking the servants with you if you’re going back?”

Emotional Israel Adesanya

Du Plessis, aged 30, and Adesanya, aged 35, have been bitter rivals since early March 2023 when the South African fighter, Du Plessis, said he intended to be the first authentic African UFC champion. He pointed out that the other Africans who are now champions are Adesanya, Usman, and Ngannou. However, he still resides and trains in Africa, unlike the others who started from there but relocated before they started being champions.

Du Plessis’ comments angered Israel Adesanya, and the rivalry between the fighters has thickened over the last 16 months. That tension has finally gotten the better of the former champ. “He touched a subject there because I do this for my family,” a tearful Adesanya said, his voice breaking. “I do this for the people I love, and I will fight for you forever, I swear to God. Watch this. Look, I am a f*cking human being, I am a man. I can cry and whoop your ass at the same time.”
