Sean Strickland’s Coach Opts Patience on Middleweight Title Shot

Sean Strickland's Coach Opts Patience

Sean Strickland recently fought Paulo Costa in UFC 302 in the middleweight Division. He came victorious out of the cage. He has been performing very well for a long time, as he has built his experience by fighting a total of 35 fights. His record is 29 wins and 6 wins. This shows his great experience in the sport. Now like every fighter, he’s looking forward to getting a chance for a title shot. His team and his head coach are also supporting Strickland in this decision, so we will be looking forward to a great fight in the future.

The Strategy of Sean Strickland

Strategy of Sean Strickland

After beating Paulo Costa at UFC 302, Strickland and his head coach, Eric Nicksick, have decided on a daring plan: no more fights until they get a chance for the title. To make things obvious to everyone, his head coach said, “In my opinion, he’s never actually lost the belt.”

They are looking forward to having a title shot and not fighting any other fighter. This choice is risky because it means staying on the sidelines while the middleweight situation develops. But the team is thinking, why would they fight another fighter if they can straight up have a title shot again? The head coach fully supports this strategy. But there’s still a question that everyone is asking, and it is: are they going to give him another title shot this soon? Let’s see what comes up next.

Return of Sean Strickland

Strickland lost his hard-earned middleweight title to Dricus du Plessis at UFC 297. After that, Sean Strickland quickly recovered with a split-decision victory over Paulo Costa at UFC 302. Instead of taking on another fight right away, Strickland decided to wait for his next title shot. Nicksick fully supports this decision.

This choice comes as the UFC middleweight division gets more exciting. At UFC 305, Dricus du Plessis will defend his title against Israel Adesanya. Adesanya is coming back for the first time since Strickland beat him at UFC 293. Nicksick thinks that no matter who wins, Strickland is perfectly set up for a rematch.

Nicksick said, “He dominated Izzy. I think if Izzy wins that fight, that’s an easy rematch. Izzy’s gonna want to get that revenge. If Dricus wins, you think he will allow Sean to avenge that loss.” So Sean has the full support of his head coach and his team, whether it is against Adesanya or the current champion, du Plessis, or someone else.
