Atlanta Braves Starting Pitcher Charlie Morton had a historic night Tuesday on the road against the San Francisco Giants. With a strikeout of Mike Yastrzemski in the bottom of the sixth inning, Morton became the seventh active pitcher in Major League Baseball with 2,000 or more strikeouts. He joins a list consisting of Max Scherzer, Justin Verlander, Clayton Kershaw, Chris Sale, Gerrit Cole, and Lance Lynn.
Morton turned in a solid start last night surrendering two earned runs over six innings of work and tying his season-high with eight strikeouts. He walked away with a no decision in the game as the Atlanta Braves won 5-4 in 10 innings. Morton is 6-7 this season with a 4.40 ERA. Morton made his MLB debut in 2008 with the Atlanta Braves and has spent time with the Pittsburgh Pirates, Philadelphia Phillies, Houston Astros, and Tampa Bay Rays over his 17-year career. He is a two-time MLB All-Star and won two World Series titles(2017, 2021). The best year of Morton’s career was in 2019 when he finished third in American League Cy Young voting. Justin Verlander won the award that season. Morton has a career record of 136-120 with a 4.02 ERA.
