Alex Smith With Heartfelt Return To Chiefs Training Camp

Alex Smith

Former Kansas City Chiefs Quarterback Alex Smith visited the team’s training camp in St. Joseph, Missouri. Of all the visits, this was certainly very close to the top regarding this camp. It added a nice layer of nostalgia and energy. Smith spent time with the Chiefs from 2013 through 2017 and was warmly received by fans and current players alike, which included Travis Kelce.

Indeed, that is the kind of sentiment trailing an Alex Smith visit to his old team, the Kansas City Chiefs, as they were preparing for the new season at their camp in St. Joseph. His arrival was like a bolt of magic, bathing this camp with warm welcomes and reminiscing moments.

The crowd and current players, including Tight End Travis Kelce, stood up and applauded the Chiefs quarterback from 2013 to 2017, Alex Smith. His career with the Chiefs was marked by incredible highs and a terrible injury, followed by a miraculous recovery. That visit was strong evidence of all the things that he’d done before for the team and, more importantly, for him. The bond he has with the Chiefs community will last a lifetime.

Visitors to this camp have been many for the Chiefs, including former Raiders Head Coach Jon Gruden. But Smith’s visit was especially special. He was spotted walking down the hill to the practice field with Kelce, catching the eye of everyone in attendance. He evoked memories of what he did during his successful spell with the team and how he put it together for the future.

He played for the Chiefs beginning in 2013 after he was acquired from the San Francisco 49ers. Before joining the Chiefs, he had been selected first overall in the 2005 NFL Draft, although his form in the early years of his career had not been the best. Smith did well during his time with the Chiefs. In five seasons, he has an overall record of 50-26, had 17,608 passing yards, and 102 total touchdowns. He played some of the best football this team had seen in years, and his leadership was amongst the best.

Memorable Contributions

One of his most memorable contributions was the ability to mentor Patrick Mahomes, who would eventually take over as the Chiefs’ starting quarterback. During the 2017 NFL season, Smith helped develop Mahomes even though he knew that the rookie would replace him in due time. Head Coach Andy Reid and Mahomes have both spoken highly of his impact, although Alex Smith tends to downplay his role.

After playing for the Chiefs, Alex Smith was traded to Washington before completing his career. His career was marked by one of the most improbable comebacks after a serious leg injury. Now retired, Smith transitioned into a career as an analyst. The fact that he is still involved in football and making sure his predictions are always right shows his never-ending love for the game.

A Visit to Remember

Alex Smith’s visit to the Chiefs’ training camp was more than a stroll down memory lane. Rather, it came from the heart, reminding them of a legacy left with the team and the connection to its ongoing success. Knowing there is a guy like Alex Smith to come back and get involved with the team is special as the Chiefs prepare for a new season. He didn’t turn up to camp just to celebrate the past but to inspire everybody looking forward to the future.
