WWE superstar Bobby Lashley’s contract is about to expire and he is not looking to re-sign with the company. Speculation has been built on where he might go next, with TNA and AEW being at the forefront of those conversations. However, Lashley has not commented on that yet, but instead shared some words about the booking philosophies of both Triple H and Vince McMahon, and why he preferred one more.
Bobby Lashley Feels He Was Booked Better By Vince McMahon
Bobby Lashley was seen earlier this week on The Laboratory podcast, discussing his time with WWE and as a wrestler overall. The conversation was directed to Bobby Lashley’s time under both Vince McMahon and Triple H, and who he felt was a better booker for him.
I had a connection with Vince. Vince understood me, Vince was big on like this show, he looked at people that were stars and he saw that in me…. [Vince] just looked at me as a star. – Bobby Lashley via The Laboratory with Plaz
This certainly makes sense as Bobby Lashley had much more success under Vince’s booking than he did under Triple H. With Hunter, Bobby Lashley also explained that the two never really got a chance to connect, which is also why he preferred working under McMahon a little more.
No Connection With Triple H
He continued talking about the topic on this podcast by explaining that Vince McMahon was looking out for him as a wrestler and treated him like one of the top guys. He talked about how McMahon had trust in him to be able to represent the company and he had no problem with Bobby being one of the faces of WWE.
He went on to explain “I haven’t really had too much connection with Hunter. Hunter has his guys and I’ve tried to, but we haven’t really worked enough together to get to know each other.” This continues to justify why Lashley preferred to work under McMahon than Triple H, as there was more of a personal connection with his first boss.
WWE Champion Under McMahon
One of the main reasons why Bobby Lashley preferred Vince McMahon and his booking was likely because he became a multiple-time WWE Champion under him. After returning to WWE in 2018 for the first time in over a decade, Lashley struggled to get over with the crowd and became a mid-card act. However, that quickly changed in late 2020 as being the leader of The Hurt Business was able to take Lashley from another wrestler on the roster into a true superstar. Bobby Lashley won his first WWE Championship in March of 2021 after defeating The Miz.
He then went on to defend his title at WrestleMania 37 and SummerSlam 2021 of that year, doing so successfully. After holding the championship for nearly 200 days, Big E cashed in his Money in the Bank contract on Bobby, ending his dominant reign. However, Lashley found himself with the title not long after, as he won it from Brock Lesnar at Royal Rumble 2022, though this time he only held it for 20 days before losing it again. Triple H took over as head of creative in the summer of 2022, and Lashley hasn’t seen any gold since September of that same year.
Bobby Lashley was booked better under the controversial Vince McMahon, which explains why these comments were made. It’s still unknown where the former world champion will be taking his talents, but considering that his contract ran out and he wasn’t released, the superstar can show up anywhere, anytime.
