He conceded that while there were a few positives in the performance of spinners and gritty batting in the middle order, overall the team has not played its best cricket. The failures to cope with Sri Lankan spinners and capitalize on moments are indeed torrid lessons for the Indian team. The series only underlined the point that a way more versatile approach is required, especially in the bowling department.

The Indian team should focus next on the Test series scheduled against Bangladesh in the immediate future. This would be a good opportunity to set right all the aberrations that had happened in the recent Sri Lankan series. They are playing in Chennai and Kanpur, where the team has to be in the best possible form to beat them.
