Alex Hales led the Trent Rockets to a 22-run victory over the London Spirit and to a better standing in The Hundred tournament. Hales made 68 runs off 42 balls and displayed his power-hitting by smashing five sixes.
Rashid Khan was the pick of the bowlers with a fantastic display of spin that saw him take three wickets in his first six balls. Rashid’s 4 for 24 and Hales’ form also came in handy for the Rockets who posted a competitive 166 for 4. Let’s dive into the article and explore more about it.
Hales and Rashid Khan Drive Rockets to Key Win Over Spirit:
Alex Hales took the Rockets to a 22-run win over the Spirit and climbed to the third position in The Hundred at home ground, Trent Bridge. The 35-year-old T20 World Cup winner was in fiery form and he scored 68 off 42 with five sixes. Rashid Khan also contributed, he got three wickets in his first six balls and secured victory for his team even after Russell threatened a late surge.
In the post-match press conference, the Afghan spinner Rashid talked about the key to victory. He stated: “The key was to pitch the ball where I wanted to. It is always fun to play against top-class cricket players like Russell.”
Rockets’ Target and Rashid Khan’s Bowling Secure Crucial Win
The Rockets, who failed in their previous two matches chasing targets, put a target of 166 for 4. Tom Banton made 36 off 25 balls and Joe Root made 32 off 23 balls to give good support to Hales. Hales had been out of form in the last few games but came good as the Rockets made 93 runs in the last 50 balls.
Rashid Khan’s bowling was effective and he took figures of 4 for 24. London Spirit’s captain Dan Lawrence tried to play Rashid but was caught by Rovman Powell on the rope and Shimron Hetmyer became an LBW.
Keaton Jennings, the left-handed opener, made a brilliant 31 off 18 balls before becoming Rashid’s victim, and the latter continued his good form in the white-ball format. Russell for a while gave hope with a massive six off Rashid and another big hit but Luke Wood’s slower ball did the trick and Russell was clean-bowled.
Rockets Rise to Third as Spirit’s Playoff Chances Slip
Matt Critchley scored 37 off 30 balls and Sam Cook took the crease and got the Spirit to a total of 106 for 9 in 20 overs, thus the Spirit has only five wins in five games and their chances of entering the knockout stages are slim.
The Trent Rockets moved up in The Hundred standings after a 22-run victory thanks to Alex Hales and Rashid Khan. Rashid again bowled well and the Rockets’ batting was always too strong for the Kings even though Andre Russell tried to make a late charge, it was not enough. The London Spirit’s chances of making it to the playoffs are slim and their next match will be a tough one to look forward to as the tournament intensifies.
