England cricket team captain Ben Stokes honored Thorpe by wearing a shirt with his name and his England cap number 564 during a Test match against New Zealand in June 2022. This was occasioned by information that Thorpe was critically ill. Stokes posted a picture of him in the shirt with a string of heart icons.
Other notable England batter and former captain, Joe Root, have referred to Thorpe as a hero, mentor, and a lot more while Michael Vaughan, another former captain of the England team said that he was lucky to have Thorpe as his mentor throughout his cricketing career, describing him as a great player and a brilliant team-mate.

Ex-Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara described Thorpe as a “great man and legend. “ Thorpe was a Wisden Cricketer of the Year in 1997 and the bible of cricket referred to him as one of England’s greatest batters.
Even Shaun Udal, the former spinner of the English cricket team, and David Gower, the former captain of the English cricket team, contributed to the expressions of their memories and sorrows. Udal said he grew up with Thorpe and against him. He said that he was not only a good player but also a good person. Gower said that Thorpe was a great player and was good in all types of weather.
