Manchester City traveled to the U.S. in preparation for another season of dominance in the Premier League. The Defending champions, however, wrapped up the tour over the weekend with a win over their Premier League counterparts Chelsea.

Their soccer tour started in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, where they faced the Celtics at the Kenan Memorial Stadium. Afterward, they flew several miles to New York City. There, they faced AC Milan at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx. In their third preseason game, the Citizens traveled down to Orlando, Florida. There, Pep Guardiola faced his former club, Barcelona, at the Camping World Stadium.

On their final trip, they headed to Columbus, Ohio, at Ohio Stadium, where they played Chelsea. Pep Guardiola’s side returned to England to continue the preparation for the Premier League campaign. So far, their trip to the US has strengthened their growing fan base in America. And in the coming 24/25 league season, the Citizens will be anticipating more engagements from their US fanbase.

The English Premier League defending champions began their soccer tour in North Carolina. Man City faced Celtic from the Scottish League. In the game, City were without some major Key players. This allowed Pep Guardiola to field a younger Squad.

The game resulted in a 4-3 Celtic victory. Erling Haaland returned to his scoring form with a goal. However, it wasn’t enough to give them a win. On their next trip to the Bronx in New York City, they faced off against AC Milan. Pep Guardiola continued to field in a youth squad. Haaland and Jack Grealish were the only senior team players. Manchester City fell short again in a narrow 3-2 win despite taking the lead from Haaland. This marked their 2nd loss in a row.

Four days later, on their trip to Orlando, Florida, Pep Guardiola faced his former side, Barcelona. The game panned out to be a 2-2 draw, with Jack Grealish being on the score sheet. However, on penalties, Manchester City lost to Hansi Flick’s side. Their final game in Ohio saw them bounce back strongly. Erling Haaland netted a Hattrick in their 4-2 win against the Blues. In the end, for Pep Guardiola, it wasn’t an impressive preseason. Nevertheless, it was unstable as most of their players were yet to resume from the Euros and Copa America.

Influence in the US Soccer Community

Manchester City’s trip to the United States was part of the strategic means of building and enlarging their fan base in America. The United States has been known to be involved in a lot of sports games. However, Soccer hasn’t been their most popular sport unlike in Europe. Sports like Basketball, Football, Baseball, and Golf have always been the games with the highest interest in the US. Lately, interest in soccer has drastically risen, with Major League Soccer MLS experiencing an increase in traction.

This has been due to the influx of European stars migrating to the league. Soccer icon Lionel Messi was also part of his numerous soccer stars. Aside from the MLS, competitive European football has also gained traction. However, due to differences in time zones, a lot of inconveniences may occur. This is especially for fans who want to view live games. Manchester City’s and their fellow EPL counterparts’ tour was initiated to increase their fanbase. And in return, they’ll anticipate more support away from England and Europe.

New Season Ahead

Manchester City signed Savio with their sister Club Girona. The Brazilian was signed for a fee of $43.6 million. The 20-year-old forward was signed to enhance City’s attack, especially from the Right side. The left-footed winger and forward will likely play on the right-hand side of Manchester City’s attack. He will serve as a possible replacement for Riyadh Mahrez, who was once their former Right winger.

Not much has been said about Manchester City making any additional signing to Savio. However, a lot has been speculated about outgoing. Kevin De Bruyne, Julian Alvarez, and Ederson are all rumored leaving the club. Notwithstanding Pep Guardiola has dismissed such rumors. Manchester City will continue their 24/25 season preparation in the community shield against their neighbors Manchester United. A week later, they’ll open their league campaign against Chelsea.
