Even though Carlos Alcaraz is only 21 years old, he has gained quite a reputation for knocking off big players, especially Novak Djokovic. These two men are building a great rivalry even with Djokovic at the tail-end of his career. However, these two men have played some great matches.

In the 2023 French Open semifinals, Djokovic knocked off Alcaraz because the heat was too much for the young Spaniard. A few weeks later, in the 2023 Wimbledon final, Alcaraz knocked off Djokovic to win his second major and first Wimbledon title. Who could forget their epic battle in the final of the Masters 1000 in Cincinnati where Djokovic beat Alcaraz? This was the greatest best-of-three-set final in ATP Tour history, lasting three hours and 49 minutes. Djokovic saved a championship point in the second set en route to the title.

Of course, just a few weeks ago, Alcaraz knocked off Djokovic in straight sets to win back-to-back Wimbledon titles. So, Alcaraz won his fourth major and completed the French Open and Wimbledon double. Now, Alcaraz is trying to complete the Roland Garros-Wimbledon-Roland Garros triple as he looks for gold. On the other hand, Djokovic is trying to win the elusive gold medal and complete the “Golden Slam” at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The Path to Djokovic-Alcaraz Again

As previously mentioned, Novak Djokovic is looking to join a short list of players looking to complete the “Golden Slam,” winning all four majors (Australian Open, Roland Garros, Wimbledon, US Open, and an Olympic gold medal). The list includes Steffi Graff, Rafael Nadal, Serena Williams, and Andre Agassi, the only players to win singles Gold at the Olympics, along with the career Grand Slam. Graff is the only player to win the Calendar Golden Slam, all four majors, and the singles gold medal.

Novak Djokovic is looking to join this list at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Even the great Roger Federer is not on the list. Though Federer has a gold medal at the Olympics, it was in doubles, not singles. You could see the emotion on Djokovic’s face after beating Lorenzo Musetti in the semifinals in straight sets 6-4, 6-2. Djokovic fell to the ground as if he had won the title again at Roland Garros. It was an emotional time. On his fifth try, he finally got past the semifinals of the Olympics and will play for gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Breaking Down The Match

However, playing Carlos Alcaraz, who is dialed in, will not be easy for Djokovic. Alcaraz beat Felix Auger-Aliassime in straight sets 6-1, 6-1 in the semifinals of the 2024 Paris Olympics tennis tournament. The young Spaniard’s performance was clinical. Alcaraz knows what it means to win in Paris. Spanish players love winning the French Open, and the last time he was in the final at Roland Garros, he won, defeating Alexander Zverev in five sets.

Djokovic has to recover after the loss at Wimbledon. It is important to give credit to Djokovic as well as he had knee surgery six weeks ago. This is his second final since then. Djokovic will have to raise the level of his game to upend Alcaraz at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Like Nadal and Federer before him, Alcaraz can bring out the best in Djokovic. However, the young Spaniard wants to show he is the prince of Roland Garros. Many are hoping for a three-set epic in the gold medal match to cap off the 2024 Paris Olympics on the red clay of Roland Garros.

Final Thoughts

This match could be over quickly if Carlos Alcaraz gets an early lead. However, we could have a match if Novak Djokovic keeps it close and forces Alcaraz to play out of his comfort zone. A thing to watch is Alcaraz’s concentration. He does have a habit of losing focus at times on the court. However, a repeat performance is not out of the question if Alcaraz is dialed in like he was in the semifinals or during the Wimbledon final. The world will watch the tennis gold medal match on the edge of their seats between Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
