Philadelphia Phillies Zack Wheeler Has Poor Start

Philadelphia Phillies Zack Wheeler struggled on Monday night.

Philadelphia Phillies Stating Pitcher Zack Wheeler struggled on Monday night at home against the New York Yankees. He surrendered seven earned runs over five innings of work while punching out six. This was not his worst start of the year though as Wheeler gave up eight earned runs on June 16 against the Baltimore Orioles.

Wheeler’s night was upended by giving up three home runs. Center Fielder Aaron Judge, Third Baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr, and First Baseman all took Wheeler deep tonight. Wheeler’s poor night was the determining factor in the New York Yankees defeating the Philadelphia Phillies 14-4. Wheeler is 10-5 this season with an ERA of 2.94. His ERA rose nearly half a point tonight from 2.55 to 2.94. He is still eighth in the league in ERA and ninth in strikeouts. Will Wheeler be able to rebound in his next start with the Philadelphia Phillies?

Wheeler is a two-time MLB All-Star(2021, 2024) and won a Gold Glove Award last season. He finished a career-best second in Cy Young voting in 2021. Corbin Burnes won the award that season. Wheeler has a career record of 97-68 with an ERA of 3.40.

When Will Wheeler Take The Mound Next?

The Phillies play the middle game of their three-game set tomorrow night against the New York Yankees. They begin a three-game series with the Mariners on Friday.

The Phillies have a critical series against the Los Angeles Dodgers next week. As the National League’s two best teams, it will provide ballclubs with a measure of where they stack up against one another. The Philadelphia Phillies have been one of the league’s best teams over the past three seasons and are looking for their first World Series title since 2008. Wheeler regaining his all-star form will be important for Philadelphia as they begin the home stretch of the 2024 regular season.
