Suryakumar Yadav, India’s new T20I captain, has been set to lead Team India. It was expected, he could shake things up to impose their identity on the squad. Also, he might instill new ideas and put himself at the heart of everything. Well, Suryakumar Yadav, if what he says is true, may not be that type of leader. In his debut as permanent captain, he promises to be a steady hand on the rudder (having previously led India in seven matches in an interim role).
Suryakumar Yadav intends to keep things in order as he takes over the role previously held by Rohit Sharma. “The same train will continue,” Suryakumar explained. “Only the engine has changed.” The bogies (carts) are identical.”
Suryakumar Yadav’s Legendary Vision
If India is still performing outstanding, India’s new captain, Suryakumar Yadav has reason to be. His opponent, Charith Asalanka, inherits a team that is failing to qualify for key international events. In contrast, India not only has a World Cup-winning team but also an IPL-winning coach in Gautam Gambhir. He and Suryakumar have previously worked together at the Kolkata Knight Riders.
Suryakumar had his first media conference as full-time captain, sharing his vision and strategy for the squad in the game’s shortest format. Suryakumar spoke about his coach. “It’s been ten years since we’ve worked together, even though I switched franchises in 2018 and he did the same. We used to keep in touch and talk about the game even though we were on separate teams. There have been lessons learned over the last six years even while I was not with him.”
“Our bond is unique; we have discussed the upcoming three T20s in some detail, but we know each other fairly well and can read each other’s body language. He understands some things even if I don’t express them. A captain and coach form a special bond. I’m quite thrilled about this adventure.” Suryakumar Yadav added.

Gambhir is not the only person who has invested in Suryakumar Yadav’s path. Rohit has served as his captain in both the Indian team and previous IPL seasons. Rohit has taught him plenty. Surya praised Rohit Sharma, who resigned from the sport after helping India to win the T20 World Cup 2024. “What I’ve learned from Rohit is that he is a leader on and off the field, not only as a captain; there is a significant difference between the two. A captain stands alongside his players and coaches them on how to play T20s and win games, and that’s what I’ve learned from him,” Suryakumar said.
Suryakumar believes that the captaincy will not be an obstacle to his explosive batting style. “I don’t believe my hitting style will change. There will be pressure, but pressure is unavoidable; otherwise, playing would be pointless. I plan to continue playing the way I have been. There will be no change.
“It’s better for me, in fact, because I can freely tell the players what style of cricket we’ll be playing in T20s in the future. I’ll appreciate it more and can definitely delegate the pressure to others (laughs) while still enjoying my game.” SKY stated. India’s tour of Sri Lanka, which began with a T20I on Saturday (July 27) and will include three T20Is and three ODIs. This will be Gautam Gambhir‘s first assignment as national team head coach.
