Shubman Gill to miss second T20I

Shubman Gill
Shubman Gill was missing from Team India’s playing XI for the second T20I against Sri Lanka. Gill had a good show in the series’s first match, where he scored 34 coming off just 16 deliveries to give Team India a good start. His quick runs, along with those of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Suryakumar Yadav, helped Team India post a competitive 213/7 in 20 overs. Indian skipper Yadav confirmed that Gill woke up with a stiff neck and thus has not found a place in the playing XI. Thus, Suryakumar named Sanju Samson’s name into the squad instead of Gill.

Yadav has opined for the inclusion of Sanju Samson in the squad in place of the cricketer. Shubman Gill was earlier in the reserves before the T20 World Cup in India but later became captain and led the team to a 4-1 series win over Zimbabwe. He then became vice-captain, and people were excited to see him play in the series against Sri Lanka. Gill is an attacking batsman and, needless to say, one of the most astute leaders in the gentleman’s game. Though he was not in the last T20 game, his recent performances proved that he is one of the most important players on the team. In this series opening match, some other players were nice with the bat, like Jaiswal, who scored 40 runs; Yadav, with 58 runs; and Rishabh Pant, who scored 49 runs—these all combined to assist the strong performance of the team.

Possible lineup to look forward to

Sri Lanka started strong but lost their final nine wickets for just 30 runs to disintegrate from 140/1 to 170. Riyan Parag led the way with three wickets from just eight balls. Axar Patel and Arshdeep Singh claimed two wickets apiece. The T20I will be followed by a three-match ODI series, including further returns for the captain Rohit Sharma and the star batter Virat Kohli. The duo is making a return to the format for the first time since the World Cup last year. This induction will give a lot of strength to the lineup and experience to the squad.
All these players will likely make a comeback into the squad. He and Kohli have been performing as consistent performers, and both of them are there to rally the team on the field; hence, their presence is expected to fill the team with high morale and performance in taking on Sri Lanka in the upcoming ODIs.  And missing the second T20I with a neck spasm was the blow that Shubman Gill needed to deal with. It was Sanju Samson’s turn to finally get an opportunity to bring out the best and relish in the success of the team’s victory.

Effect of Gill’s injury on Team India

Gill’s attacking batting and leadership has borne the hallmark for India in the few last matches. His ability to score quickly for the team has been vital in giving them a solid tarmac, largely a factor in making the team the success it is today. But despite him not being there, the team remains strong and prepared for the challenges ahead.

The cricket player won’t be playing in the upcoming T20I between India and Sri Lanka because he suffers from a neck spasm. He had been an important player for India recently; therefore, his comeback was highly expected. Notwithstanding his absence, India has a great team and is versatile; they have been doing well. He has been an integral part of the team; therefore, everybody was waiting for his inclusion in terms of the team.
