Bantamweight Championship Headlines UFC 306

Sean O'Malley Bantamweight Champion

The Current Bantamweight Champion Sean O’Malley, will be facing off the challenger Merab Dvalishvili. He and Dvalishvili have been posting against each other on different social media platforms like Instagram and Twitter so, they have a little past.

Sean has defended his title before in UFC 299. After Sean O’Malley earned the Bantamweight Championship Belt, he defended it just once a time in UFC 299 and now will be the second time Sean has defended his title. According the journalist Ariel Helwani the current bantamweight Champion will be defending his title against Dvalishvili soon in UFC 306, the face-off will take place at Sphere in Las Vegas.

Sean O’Malley After Defeating Marlon

Sean O’Malley was challenged by Marlon Vera at UFC 299. It was an interesting fight because the latter previously defeated Sugar Sean but this time the Bantamweight Champion showed why he is still the Champion and completely dominated Vera at UFC 299 on March 19 to avenge his previous loss. O’Malley had only lost one fight in his whole professional career and that was from Marlon Vera, but that is not because of the lack of skills of the undisputed Bantamweight Champion. Sean has now won 18 fights until now and he won 12 of the fights by knockout.

The 29-year-old fought against the previous Bantamweight Champion Aljamain Sterling and defeated him by a TKO to win his title. Sean O’Malley has motivation from one of the great champions of UFC, Conor McGregor. Conor is among the people from whom Sean is inspired and he is the one who he looks up to.

Merab Dvalishvili is very confident in his skills and he believes that he will easily dominate the current Bantamweight Champion through a knockout. He talks like Sean O’Malley is no big deal for him but UFC is the place where overconfidence drives people to be knocked out instead because you have to take every opponent seriously, especially when you are going to face a beast like Sean O’Malley.

But Merab does not confess that he is overconfident but he claims Sean to be overconfident and he believes that his skills will ruin his overconfidence by saying “Don’t be surprised, I may knock him out because he is very confident and I have some skills.” This shows the mental strength of the challenger for the Bantamweight title.

Merab Dvalishvili has trained a lot for this title and has been posting about it months ago. In his posts, he claimed to be working hard to earn the Bantamweight title and he firmly believes that one day his training will pay off. Merab Dvalishvili previously expressed his views on March 12, via MMA Fighting’s Drake Riggs. “I’m getting better and I’m training and I can knock out O’Malley, I believe so.” This shows how confident Merab is to knock out the Bantamweight Champion.

Sugar Calls Merab ‘You’re Next’

“Merab is f–king next,” Sean O’Malley had strong remarks against what Merab Dvalishvili said. He has claimed that he knows about his opponents and what their weaknesses are. He said different things about Dvalishvili several times in the past also by mentioning that he knows his weaknesses and he will be able to defeat him easily because of the skills he has against him.

Sugar Sean is excited to fight Merab Dvalishvili by saying “His wish is granted. A lot of people said I’m ducking him. The reality is that I am not ducking that little dude. I like the fight for me. There are multiple ways to win. I’m excited about the fight now finally.”
