PCB Hands Over Champions Trophy 2025 Schedule To ICC

PCB Hands Over Champions Trophy 2025 Schedule to ICC

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) decided to leave it up to the ICC to convince the BCCI to send a team to Pakistan for the next Champions Trophy. That will be held in the first quarter of next year. According to a PCB source, the Champions Trophy budget was approved at the previous ICC conference in Colombo. But there was no discussion of the timetable or structure.

“The PCB has completely fulfilled its commitments as hosts of the Champions Trophy. It presented the draft schedule and format for the event, as well as the budget for the event. It is now up to the ICC to choose when the Champions Trophy schedule will be distributed, discussed, and finalized,“ a PCB insider said.

PCB Hosting India’s Games in Lahore

For its role in the draft schedule, the Pakistan Cricket Board has proposed hosting all of India’s games in Lahore, including a semi-final (if India qualifies) and final. A PCB insider stated, “All of India’s games, including a potential semi-final and final, have been set for Lahore. The India against Pakistan marquee match has been scheduled for March.”

Another source stated that the Pakistan Cricket Board has already submitted all details in their expression of interest dossier to the ICC to host the Champions Trophy. “The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), for its part, has provided the ICC with written information about the tax arrangements, venue selections, and government clearance for the Indian team to be hosted in Pakistan for the major event,” he added.

The Pakistan Cricket Board first expressed interest in hosting the event in 2021, during Ehsan Mani’s time as Chairman of the Board. The ICC awarded hosting rights in 2022, and when Ramiz Raja was Chairman of the PCB, the board filed final papers for the host agreement to be signed with the International Cricket Council.

Mohsin Naqvi, the Pakistan Cricket Board chairman, did not have any formal meetings with the BCCI secretary, Jay Shah, or any other BCCI officials on the sidelines of the International Cricket Council (ICC) meetings/ But their discussions were cordial during the sessions.

According to the PCB, the two-week Champions Trophy will be held in Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi. The draft schedule sees India based in and playing all of their matches in Lahore, where the final will also be held. The Pakistan Cricket Board has given the International Cricket Council (ICC) responsibility for drafting and promoting the tournament program. As well as they’ll obtain confirmation from the BCCI that the Indian team will go to Pakistan.

ICC has allocated extra expenses in its tournament budget to account for the prospect of the Indian team having to play games outside of Pakistan. The BCCI has often said that playing cricket in Pakistan, including the 2023 ODI Asia Cup, is solely up to the government. The Pakistan Cricket Board organized the event, during which India played all of its games in Sri Lanka using the ‘Hybrid Model’.

Despite the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) relying on the International Cricket Council (ICC) to convince India, the BCCI has refused to come to Pakistan. If India does not travel and the event proceeds, Sri Lanka will replace Rohit Sharma and his squad in the competition.
