Terence Crawford Reveals Frustration Over Sebastian Fundora

Terence Crawford, the welterweight champion of the world, stated that he was frustrated the previous time because all his programs were canceled. Terence Crawford initially targeted Sebastian Fundora, the reigning WBC/WBO Junior Middleweight Champion, in his fight. Fundora’s team chose to escape in the direction of a more popular matchup, with Errol Spence Jr., in which Crawford was left on the lookout for an opponent.

During the heart-to-heart conversation with the All the Smoke YouTube channel, Crawford got bothered by Fundora’s decision. While he does acknowledge that Fundora is a good fighter and he gets the practicality of it all, there seems to be a slight bitterness there. He pointed out that taking a fight against Spence, who draws a lot more and has been to the PPV party more frequently, leaves him with fewer options for the big PPV money bags. Terence Crawford expressed:

That’s who initially we were going to try and fight, but he said he wasn’t going to be able to fight this year, and we wanted the fight this year. So, we had to go to the next best option, and that’s Israil

Terence Crawford recognizes that these choices are not easy, with these various representatives of the company bringing forth many considerations into the decision-making process. The man bears no hard feelings towards Fundora or Spence and wants both of them to triumph in their next fight. Terence Crawford also understands that the management of Fundora made a decision based on what they thought was the best strategy to adopt for their fighter.

Crawford further added that is not a fan of Fundora or Spence. However, he does think that politics can have a strong influence on such decisions. Terence Crawford does not lose sight of the fact that he still has an opponent in front of him in Madrimov, which he still considers a big chance. Although he may have wished to have fought with Fundora, he says he will make do with the current opponent and carry on to demonstrate his prowess in the boxing ring.

After that battle, the next fighter that Terence Crawford is expected to face is WBA junior middleweight champion Israil Madrimov, who took the place of Fundora. Fundora has more popularity among the American audience, while Madrimov has an expressive record, but his name is not that recognizable in the United States.  Thus, for Terence Crawford or another opponent, the only title will be on the line in the fight scheduled for August 3rd, which would have been two if the fighters had encountered Fundora.

The political aspect is yet another reason why Crawford feels let down, due to the nature of boxing politics. The decision to face Spence by Fundora proves the fact that in this industry, each fight pursues financial success and ratings of participants regardless of other factors. Based on the information presented in this case, it is possible to assume that Fundora’s management compared the revenues generated by Crawford through the PPV.

The level of risk associated with his performance was compared to the potential revenues that could be generated by Spence, and it was concluded that the second option was more favorable. The boxer explained the financial situation surrounding Spence and said:

You can say that financial-wise, Errol Spence may bring in more money. He doesn’t even know that for a fact. He didn’t have a meeting with us and say. This is what I want.’ He didn’t have a meeting with my handlers and say. No nothing.
