Punjab Kings Unlikely To Renew Bayliss Contract in 2024

Punjab Kings Unlikely To Renew Bayliss Contract in 2024

After Ricky Ponting, another Australian is set to retire from the Indian Premier League (IPL). Trevor Bayliss, the head coach of the Punjab Kings, could also be leaving. His two-year deal with the Punjab Kings has expired. And the team is unlikely to renew it. According to sources, PBKS is looking for an Indian coach to help guide the team.

It is unclear whether they will ultimately choose an Indian coach. But they are said to be thinking about several candidates, one of whom is Sanjay Bangar. He was previously the franchise’s head coach and now the cricket development director. A decision was to be made at the board meeting scheduled for July 22, but it did not occur. The franchise is considering to have expanded its hunt ahead of the mega-auction later this year.

Punjab Kings’ Decision on Bayliss

According to the report, PBKS is looking for an Indian coach. If this is accurate, Bayliss would be the second Australian coach, following Ricky Ponting, to be fired this month. If we compare Bayliss with other franchise coaches, Rahul Dravid showed tremendous performances with the Indian team. Gautam Gambhir, and Chandrakanth Pandit’s back the Kolkata Knight Riders’ title-winning campaign last season.

Ashish Nehra‘s excellent association with the Gujarat Titans has resulted in Indian coaches being in great demand among IPL clubs. Sourav Ganguly remains an important member of the Delhi Capitals’ coaching group. Dinesh Karthik has joined the Royal Challengers Bengaluru coaching staff for the 2018 season.

61-year-old-Bayliss has had three different stints with three main franchises – Kolkata Knight Riders, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Punjab Kings. Whereas, Punjab Kings officials say they will make a final decision after a review of last year’s performance. His T20 record across matches has been quite bad over the last five years. Whether with the Sunrisers, Sydney Thunder, or Punjab Kings.

The Punjab Kings’ ownership group continues to say that no decision has been taken. Franchise insiders are worried about the Australian’s coaching approach, but they know that results are ultimately important. Despite a great roster, the club failed to live up to the franchise’s aspirations. They finished eighth and ninth in the final two seasons. Bayliss takes over for Anil Kumble before the 2023 season. A report also revealed that Bayliss did not answer text messages from this website.

Sanjay Bangar as a Top Candidate for Punjab Kings

Elsewhere in the IPL, Rahul Dravid is being chased by several franchises. And the Mumbai Indians are getting a lot of attention from Mark Boucher. At Gujarat Titans, the Ashish Nehra-Vikram Solanki pairing is also a risk. All eyes are on Kolkata Knight Riders to see who their new coaches will be after a mass exit from the franchise to the Indian squad.

The franchise, captained by skipper Shikhar Dhawan, explores numerous Indian possibilities. Sanjay Bangar, the former head coach of the Punjab Kings and current director of cricket development, is one of the probable candidates. Bangar’s familiarity with the team and vast coaching expertise position him as a viable contender.

Over the last five years, Bayliss has had mixed fortunes as a T20 coach, with stops at Kolkata Knight Riders, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Sydney Thunder, and Punjab Kings, as well as a successful stint with the England side. Despite his significant expertise, the Punjab Kings’ selectors will hold a review meeting to assess last year’s performance before reaching a final decision.
