Moeen Ali disappointed By Naseem Shah’s ‘Hundred’ Absence

Moeen Ali
Moeen Ali expressed his disappointment over the non-availability of Naseem Shah for the The Hundred tournament. He said that Naseem was their top pick and was going to give the team an extra impetus. According to him, Naseem’s skills and attributes would have made a lot of difference to the team and contributed to key matches. Their absence has somewhat disturbed the balance of the team, and it’s a little bit tougher to perform. Moeen had earlier said that cricketers should be given a license to play in cricket tournaments if they don’t have other commitments; too many restrictions sometimes kill the spirit of the sport.

Moeen Ali’s Opinion On Unavailability of Naseem Shah

It is to be noted here that the PCB did not give a No Objection Certificate to Naseem Shah for The Hundred League. Though Naseem has a contract with Birmingham Phoenix, he had asked for an NOC, but the same was denied by the PCB as there were some concerns regarding the way his workload is managed. The Pakistan Cricket Board felt the need not to overload Naseem Shah, ensuring a long-term strategy for his well-being and performance in the future.
On account of his extraordinary talent, Naseem was picked up for the most costly category in The Hundred with a £125,000 contract. This was an enormous contract, showing the respect he was held in and the huge role he was projected for. His induction was likely to be a boost to the team in terms of performance and morale. But in not granting him the NOC, the PCB had taken a considerate decision concerning his health and future. It was necessary to handle him with care and avoid any strain or injuries that would have affected his career in the long run. This decision, however well-meaning and to protect him, has undoubtedly affected the team.
The absence of Naseem has surely created an unbelievable chasm; his talent, energy, and potential were expected by the team to be vast supplements and improvements. There is a keenly felt gap that his absence has caused, and thus the team had to change strategies and roles around. Despite all this, Moeen Ali claims he still has bright hopes regarding the future. He knows that it isn’t easy to tread on when the team misses out on such an important player, but at the same time, this doesn’t tell people that the aspirations and goals set by the team are out of reach.

Champions Trophy Participation Uncertain

Asked about his prospects of playing in the Champions Trophy to be held in Pakistan in 2013, Moeen replied that it is too early to make any predictions. He said much can happen between now and then and does not know what the situation will be at that time. Still, though, the all-rounder was hopeful that the England team would go on to win it because they are a talented and dedicated team.
He said that the Champions Trophy, being a 50-over format, may accommodate some younger players with a hunger to prove themselves. To this, Moeen replied that he would be ready if selected, showing he is committed and ready. Irrespective of whether Moeen gets selected or not, he wants to be an inspiration for the upcoming generation of players; if he can inspire a few young kids to chase their dreams, he will be satisfied.
He encourages teammates to stay positive, focused, and determined, talking about the role of unity and resilience. According to Moeen, such setbacks can be overcome only by strong team spirit and the willingness to look out for each other during tough times. The leadership he displays, coupled with his attitude, inspires the team to keep focused and hammer away toward success, no matter the odds.
