Milwaukee Brewers Chicago Cubs

The Milwaukee Brewers will begin a three-game set with the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field in Chicago, Illinois on Monday night. The first pitch for this baseball game will begin at 8:05 p.m. ET. For this matchup, the projected pitching matchup will be Tobias Myers (6-3 record, 3.13 ERA) for the Brewers and Javier Assad (4-3 record, 3.27 ERA) for the Cubs.

So far this season, the Milwaukee Brewers lead the National League Central division with a 57-42 record. Pat Murphy is in his first season as the manager of Milwaukee. He has impressed the fanbase with a lot of his lineup decisions this season. Milwaukee has the third-best record in the National League.

As for the Chicago Cubs, they are still in the National League Wild Card race with a 48-53 record. They are managed by Craig Counsell. Counsell is in his first season with Chicago. It has been a work in progress with the Cubs this season. The Chicago Cubs nearly made it to the playoffs last season and could be on the outside looking in again this season. How will this series unfold?

Key Players For Manager Pat Murphy

Shortstop Willy Adames is projected to bat fourth for the Milwaukee Brewers. In 99 games played so far this season, he has a .248 batting average with 15 home runs and 67 RBIs, along with 12 stolen bases and three caught stealing attempts. Adames also has a .332 on-base percentage. Adames is tied for the most home runs on the team with Rhys Hoskins.

Catcher William Contreras is projected to bat second for Milwaukee. In 95 games played this year, he has a .284 batting average with 11 home runs and 56 RBIs, along with five stolen bases and one caught stealing attempt. Contreras also has a .350 on-base percentage. He has been one of the best catchers in the National League this season.

Tobias Myers has pitched in 14 games for the Brewers. He has pitched in 72.0 innings and has given up 61 hits and 25 runs. Myers has also walked 20 batters and has struck out 62 batters. Myers in his last start against the Pittsburgh Pirates, pitched eight innings and struck out six batters. He was the winning pitcher in that contest.

Second baseman Nico Hoerner is projected to bat leadoff for the Chicago Cubs. In 92 games played this year, he has a .258 batting average with four home runs and 30 RBIs, along with 14 stolen bases and two caught stealing attempts. Hoerner’s on-base percentage is .338. He had one hit and one RBI against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday.

Shortstop Dansby Swanson is projected to bat seventh for Chicago. In 90 games played so far this season, he has a .210 batting average with nine home runs and 31 RBIs, along with five stolen bases and three caught stealing attempts. His on-base percentage is .284. Swanson will need to play better in this series.

Javier Assad has pitched in 17 games this season for the Cubs. He has pitched in 85.1 innings and has given up 80 hits and 33 runs. One of his issues this season has been his walk rate. Assad has walked 35 batters and has struck out 79 batters. Assad only pitched in 2.1 innings in his last start and gave up seven hits and three runs against the St. Louis Cardinals.

This is a series that the Milwaukee Brewers will need to win to dash the playoff hopes of the Chicago Cubs. Milwaukee fans would love it if they did not see Craig Counsell contending for a playoff spot this season. The Cubs will have to decide soon whether or not they will be sellers at the MLB trade deadline. As for the Brewers, they most likely will be buyers because they need starting pitching help.
