The Green Bay Packers will open up training camp this week. There will be a lot of storylines entering camp. One of the biggest stories for Green Bay entering camp this season will be who will be the starting left tackle. Jordan Morgan and Rasheed Walker will battle for the right tackle spot. Walker for now is projected to be the starting left tackle, but Morgan has a chance to win the job.
Another thing that the Green Bay Packers fanbase will want to watch for this training camp is who will emerge as the number one wide receiver on the roster. Many a season ago thought Christian Watson was going to be the guy, but he missed too many games because of a hamstring injury. Romeo Doubs, Jayden Reed, and Dontayvion Wicks will look to prove themselves in training camp.
The Green Bay Packers defense and special teams will be worth the price of admission to training camp. The kicking competition between Anders Carlson and Greg Joseph will be intense because they need to get that position right. Carlson was just a rookie a season ago, but Joseph is a veteran who has a chance to make the roster if Carlson slips up. Also, Head Coach Matt LaFleur fired Defensive Coordinator Joe Barry during the offseason. They go from a 3-4 defensive scheme to a 4-3 defensive scheme.
Jayden Reed Was Placed On the Non-Football Injury List
To start training camp, Packers Wide Receiver Jayden Reed was placed on the non-football injury list. It will be interesting to see when he will start to take the field for Green Bay. Reed played a huge role for the Green Bay Packers in his rookie season. Last year, he caught 64 passes for 793 yards receiving and eight touchdowns, along with averaging 12.4 yards per catch. Jayden Reed was targeted 94 times in 16 games played.
He was only one of two wide receivers on the Green Bay Packers roster last season who went over 100 yards receiving in a single game. Reed is also a factor on offense in the run game. He had 11 carries for 119 yards and two touchdowns, along with averaging 10.8 yards per carry. Green Bay hopes to use his versatility quite a bit this season.
Jayden Reed has a chance to be a 1,000-yard receiver in this offense this season if he is healthy. Reed led the team in receiving yards, but Romeo Doubs also had eight receiving touchdowns a season ago. A source told Sports Illustrated’s Bill Huber that Jayden Reed should be fine and he should be on the practice field within the next few days.
Where Do The Packers Go From Here?
With Reed being sidelined to start camp, expect the Green Bay Packers to see more of Bo Melton and Dontayvion Wicks with the first unit at the wide receiver position. It does not matter who is in or out of the lineup for Green Bay. Quarterback Jordan Love loves throwing the football to different wide receivers. Wicks for now is with the second unit, but this could be the perfect time for him to show he belongs with the first unit.
If Jayden Reed does not show up for the Green Bay Packers by the end of the week, it could be more of a concern. For now, the Packers fanbase should not be worried about him not showing up for the first days of training camp. To go along with the Reed news, they signed Defensive Tackle Kenny Clark to a contract extension on Sunday. Also, Quarterback Jordan Love could be very close to a new contract extension for Green Bay. The potential Love news would make the Packers fanbase very happy.
