Are Manchester City super keen to get one of Crystal Palace’s best-ever players from the Eagles before next season? Truth is, they might be — and we all know that the city can spare no expense for what they want. For a club that has had sufficient financial troubles in the past couple of years, with multiple complaints of overspending and misallocating funds, Manchester City spends however much they want to get a player in a transfer window that fits their needs.
They spent hundreds of millions on players like Erling Haaland and Grealish to come to their squad — and it seems as though a Palace winger could be the next big transfer move this summer window to go to Manchester City for the big bucks.
Manchester City Could Get Eze from Crystal Palace
Eze was easily a standout player for Palace this past season. With a team that usually struggles to get out of the bottom third of teams in the Premier League table, they did fairly well for their standards this year. They ended up in the top ten, with much thanks to players like Eze, Wharton, and Mateta spurring the rest of the players on.
Eze was a huge name coming out of the Premier League final matches last year, as he made a significant impact for the team, getting himself enough exposure to even get called up into the England squad training camp for the Euros. He impressed throughout the entirety of the year, showing how he can be consistent AND dynamic in every match. It is no wonder Palace wants to hold onto him — if he leaves, that will change the way the entire team plays next season. Manchester City don’t care, however, as they are willing to pay more than $65 million to sign the speedy and electric attacker from the London Team.
But, is $65+ million too much for Eze? In short, he has proven his worth at scoring and giving assists to his teammates in touch games. Plus, now that he is an England international, his current form and importance for Palace have him priced above the $50 million mark in many pundit’s and coaches’ eyes, including the coaches at Manchester City.
Eze Stats
For Crystal Palace last season, he made 27 appearances scored 11 goals, and provided four assists, which is incredible for missing 9-10 games in the season. The year prior, he appeared in all 38 matches, scoring ten goals and providing four assists for his teammates throughout the season. During both years, he added assists and appearances to his tallies as he took the field in EFL Cup matches with Crystal Palace as well. Even during his first season with the club, he truly made a mark on the league, starting and playing in 34 matches, scoring four goals, and giving his teammates six assists throughout the year.
At 26 years old, Eze is arguably in the prime of his career. He has multiple years left of him to continue playing at a high level, which is why he is the most valuable right now. Before joining Crystal Palace, he made 104 appearances at QPR, scoring twenty goals in the process. His ability to adapt to various team environments, like QPR, Wycombe Wanderers, Millwall, Reading, Fulham, Arsenal, and Palace, makes him an asset for any squad.
Now, Manchester City are looking to bolster their attacking threats for next year. They have Erling Haaland as a true #9 striker, along with Grealish as a winger, Foden as a 10/left-footed winger, Doku as a forward, and Alvarez as a striker. But, they see Silva get older, Gundogan leave for another team, Alvarez potentially head elsewhere, and De Bruyne closer to retirement. Bringing in younger attackers is a smart move by Pep Guardiola.
