Arizona Diamondbacks Pitcher On Great Run

The Arizona Diamondbacks offense had a memorable performance on Tuesday.

Arizona Diamondbacks Starting Pitcher Brandon Pfaadt continued a spectacular run over his last five starts. He has surrendered only six earned runs over his last five starts. Pfaadt tossed seven scoreless innings while punching out seven on the road this afternoon against the Chicago Cubs. His great start was wasted as he walked away with a no decision as the Arizona Diamondbacks lost 2-1 in 10 innings.

Pfaadt’s great run of starts began on June 25 against the Minnesota Twins and included games against the Oakland Athletics, San Diego Padres, and Atlanta Braves. He has an ERA of 1.82 over his last five starts. Pfaadt has lowered his ERA by over half a point over this extraordinary run of starts. He is 4-6 this season with an ERA of 3.74. Will Pfaadt be able to keep up his great form in his next start and over the remainder of the season?

Brandon Pfaadt Career Summary

Pfaadt made his debut last season with the Arizona Diamondbacks. He was a critical part of a Diamondbacks team that made it to the 2023 World Series. They eventually lost in five games to the Texas Rangers. Pfaadt posted a 3.27 ERA in the 2023 MLB Postseason over six appearances. He has a career record of 7-15 with an ERA of 4.62.

Arizona Diamondbacks Season Summary

The Arizona Diamondbacks(51-49) are tied for second place in the National League West and are in a three-way tie for the third and final National League Wild Card spot. Arizona’s offense has been strong this season. They are ninth in batting average, 16th in home runs, and third in runs scored. Their offense is led by Second Baseman Ketel Marte and First Baseman Christian Walker. Marte is top 20 in the league in both batting average and OPS while Walker is ninth in the league home runs(19) and seventh in RBI with 68. Marte was named to his second all-star team earlier this season.

Arizona’s pitching staff has really struggled this season. They are 25th in ERA, 29th in strikeouts, and tied for 28th in opposing batting average. Their pitching staff is led by Starting Pitcher Ryne Nelson and Pfaadt. Nelson is tied for the team lead with seven wins while Pfaadt leads the ballclub in both ERA and strikeouts. The Arizona bullpen has also struggled this season as they are 21st in bullpen ERA this year.

When Will Pfaadt Take The Mound Next?

The next scheduled start for Pfaadt is at home on Saturday, July 27, against the Pittsburgh Pirates. He faced the Pirates in May of 2023 and acquitted himself well. He surrendered one earned run over 5.1 innings of work while striking out three. Pfaadt walked away with a no decision as the Arizona Diamondbacks won the game 4-3. The Diamondbacks begin a three-game set on Monday on the road against the Kansas City Royals.

Arizona will have their work cut out for them in the second half of the season as they look to follow up their National League pennant. They are seeking their third trip to the MLB Playoffs in the last eight seasons. Arizona’s pitching staff, led by a red-hot Pfaadt, will need to continue pitching well for the Diamondbacks to break through in a crowded National League Wild Card picture. Their offense is already near the top of the league, but the pitching staff of the Arizona Diamondbacks may be their undoing in the 2024 season.
