“If we are going there to play, then they should come here to Pakistan too, right?” Ali told Samaa TV. “Everyone has said time and time again that sports should not interfere with politics. ”
Many Indian players have said in interviews that they wanted to play in Pakistan. It is not that the team does not want to come; they do want Pakistan to host the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, with Karachi and Lahore serving as two probable venues.
The Champions Trophy event is set to be a big event. Some strong teams are due to be there. Yet given the uncertainty of India’s participation, there is concern. It can be attributed to the political climate between India and Pakistan. Because of the tense relations, it might be likely that India might not attend.
Pakistan Cricket Board Position
The Pakistan Cricket Board has supported Ali’s claims. The PCB recently said it wants to host the Champions Trophy in Pakistan.
“And as our chairman has said, if the Champions Trophy is going to be held in Pakistan, then it is going to be played in Pakistan,” Ali said.
As the Champions Trophy event draws closer, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) faces a decision. The main issue facing the BCCI revolves around political pressure. Will it let India’s players participate in Pakistan?
