KL Rahul’s Potential Departure from LSG For IPL 2025

KL Rahul

The cricket fraternity was in for a major shock when it came to light that KL Rahul, the skipper of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), is now likely to leave his team before the beginning of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. This comes at a time when the Indian Premier League, including the mega auction, is set to take place in the future, whereby teams are likely to extend the chance of reshaping their line-ups.

Nevertheless, with the finalization of the rules by the tournament’s governing council about player regulations for each franchise still under discussion, the issues regarding the evolution of team compositions have not been entirely settled.

As per the news published in Dainik Jagran a couple of days ago, KL Rahul and Lucknow Super Giants owner Sanjeev Goenka are said to be angry with each other. Further, this speculation came out after the social media video went viral of the heated confrontation between Goenka and KL Rahul after being bowled out by the Sunrisers Hyderabad during an IPL 2024 Lucknow match. The video raised many eyebrows concerning a possible breach by the captain and the franchise’s top management.

This appears to have been solved shortly after the incident when Goenka invited KL Rahul to a dinner at his home in Delhi. At dinner, the two seemed to make up as they hugged, and even though KL Rahul had his back to the camera, there was a trace of a smile. This gesture of unity was intended to address previous ideas that might have arisen from the previous skirmishes, showing that there was a major rift between the two of them.

But after that, the captain of LSG looked normal in the discussion with the owner of the LSG at the dinner Behind all of these activities, the LSG Coaches also share their perspectives on the relationship between the owner and the captain. LSG’s assistant coach, Lance Klusener, did not seem to pay much attention to the rumors, dismissing the incident as something trivial.

Klusener was quoted as having said, “Some tension? I don’t view anything improper with two cricket enthusiasts who hold two different views having a heated argument. So, for us, I guess it’s just a storm in a teacup. We love an argument. I think that’s how teams improve. So, it’s not a big issue for us.”

His remarks were meant to calm factions and inform other stakeholders whether issues were manageable or not.

They’ll famously discuss KL Rahul’s Future

Even if Goenka and Klusener have both said that they support KL Rahul and that he has become the lone Indian cricketer in the franchise, it is unquestionably a change in the relationship between the player and the franchise. Since this shift, there have been speculations about him leaving LSG before the start of the 2025 IPL season. There are rumors about Rahul’s exit now, and there are indications that he might be back at Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) next season.

Rahul, the battalion prodigy that RCB is currently seeking for an Indian skipper for long-term projects, is worthy of appointment. The franchise is said to be thinking about replacing Faf du Plessis, as the latter is now perhaps not the best long-term bet for the position, being 40 years old. Besides, his previous experience playing for Big Show’s RCB, in which he launched his IPL journey in 2013 and was part of the 2016 RCB squad that only missed the final, adds to his suitability to shape the team’s future.
