Atletico Madrid Targets Man City Forward as Alvaro Morata Replacement

Getafe Vs Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid is one of the top clubs in Spain, maybe even one of the best in the entire world. So, they were shocked when one of their key attackers decided to go elsewhere and leave them high and dry. They need exciting wingers, prolific goal scorers, and creative attacking midfielders to score goals and remain at the top of La Liga — so, what now?

Atletico Madrid has their flights set on a new striker from arguably the best league — the Premier League. This critical player was a huge tool for Pep Guardiola’s side last year but didn’t get consistent game time due to the arrival of big names like Erling Haaland and the rise of Phil Foden.

If Atletico Madrid can purchase this player from Man City, they’ll be looking good for this year.

Alvaro Morata left Atletico Madrid to go elsewhere, a move that shocked the club and left them in a tizzy. Now, they are left with not much time left on the summer transfer window to try and find a suitable striker replacement who will help them score goals and break into the top two spots of La Liga.

If everything goes according to plan, they can make contact with Julian Alvarez, a talented young player who has shone during his time at Manchester City. Despite usually being a sub for the English side, he has made a huge impact every time he has stepped onto the field. But, Pep Guardiola seems to never let him break into the starting lineup, which could be a cause for concern for his playing time moving forward.

Julian Alvarez is the top target now for Atletico Madrid. He has amazing potential and plays extremely well during his time on the pitch, but earned only limited minutes at City due to Erling Haaland, Phil Foden’s Premier League Player of the Year performance, Grealish’s record signing at the club, and DeBruyne coming back from injury.

Last season, he appeared in 36 matches and scored 11 goals for his club, adding nine assists to his lucrative stats. The prior year, he made 31 appearances and scored nine goals. These are great numbers for a starting player, let alone a substitution who has limited minutes. He also added 17 matches in the UEFA Champions League in the last two years, adding eight goals to his overall tally.

Atletico Madrid and Man City Cooperation

Transferring a player between La Liga in Spain and the English Premier League isn’t as easy as it seems. Players have release clauses, loan agreements, personal weekly wages, and transfer fees. The Spanish club wants to obtain a loan period with an option to buy at a later date, whereas City is hoping to directly sell the player.

Atletico wants to be able to get Alvarez onto their team without needing to meet the immediate purchase price of more than $75 million for the player. However, City believe that the talented winger is worth that much, so they don’t want to get rid of him without making a profit in the deal.

If Atletico can figure out a way to persuade City of the loan, or if they can fork over more than $75 million for Alvarez, they will look a lot better heading into next season. They recently brought in some new talent and youth into the team which will help their energy and fitness heading into the 2024-2025 campaign.
