Chelsea parted ways with the manager Graham Potter Months ago, bringing on Pochettino to try and right the wrongs from the former gaffer who ran the Blues into the ground. Although the sacking was a bit premature, with many calling for Potter to stay and be given a chance to rebuild the team, he was fired right away.
Pochettino was brought in to help the club but seems to have fallen by the wayside as well. Now, Enzo Maresca is the latest to take over for the London club after a string of failed managers have left the Blues to start fresh elsewhere. However, one manager is better off than the rest, with Graham Potter capitalizing on being fired from a stressful job by continuing to make a hefty chunk of change by doing no work at all.
Graham Potter Continuously Paid by Chelsea
Potter left Chelsea this past April — so who is still being paid an absurd amount by the club when he is no longer doing any work? Talk about a lucrative job. Chelsea agreed to pay Graham Potter, even after he left, until October of this year. Therefore, Potter has been not working for six-plus months for an extremely high weekly salary of more than $220,000 to do absolutely nothing. What a steal.
So, what is Chelsea to do now? Well, the smartest thing to do by the club would be to stop paying Graham Potter or wait until the clause runs out in October, to begin saving money again. The club will get a huge financial gain by seeing this tie to Potter end in the upcoming months, as they can use that money to go towards new players, the transfer window, or current player wages.
Another option is if the FA hires him, this means that his new salary is taken from the money that Chelsea still owes him during their contract. Therefore, the club could save more than $1 million in the process and abide by the league’s strict financial regulations that have been haunting Chelsea for multiple years now.
Graham Potter For The England Role?
One of the most talked about stories besides Potter still getting paid by Chelsea is where he will go next for this future managerial role. He has turned down offers, seemingly to wait for something better or more infamous. That is why fans think that he is waiting for Southgate to be out of the England job so that he can take over for his national team.
However, Graham Potter denies the rumors and states that he is ready to start coaching again, but maybe not for his country.
I’ve had a great break. The journey from where I started to where I finished doesn’t come for free. Moving three countries, with a young family and all that comes with being a football manager. It was important for me to take a break, reflect and re-energize.
It was a good time to look at other things, other sports, other teams and visit places. I feel really ready, really excited to be back when the right opportunity comes.
It seems as though Potter is ready to come out of retirement and get started coaching in the Prem once more. Who knows, maybe Reece James missed him after all. Meanwhile, there are a lot of events unfolding everyday which is keeping the audience on the edge of their seats.
