Orlando Magic vs. Cleveland Cavaliers Summer League Preview | July 12, 2024

The first NBA 2k25 Summer League game will start with Orlando Magic vs. Cleveland Cavaliers. It should be a fun one as these rosters get their summer started.

The Magic will come out with a roster that includes seven rookies. One player to look out for is Tristan da Silva, who was picked up by Orlando in the first round at No. 18. The team also includes three four-year players who will look to make a splash. All three of them have struggled in the league and will hopefully use this summer to grow.

The Cavaliers roster consists of eight rookies making their Summer League debut. Jaylon Tyson will be one to watch as the No. 20 overall pick. Unlike Orlando, the Cavs roster is much younger in terms of experience. There is only one two-year player on the roster, and the rest are one-year and rookie players. It will be interesting to see if less experience will hurt them in the matchup.

Will this battle end with the Magic on top, or can the Cavs start the summer 1-0?

Summer League Team Review

As mentioned, one of the main players to watch is Tristan da Silva. His senior year with CU Boulder was great, as he averaged 16.0 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game. Looking at his college stats, he consistently grew in all categories and will hopefully do the same thing in the NBA. I think his first Summer League game will be a great one.

Another player to watch is Anthony Black. He was No. 6 overall in the 2023 NBA Draft and got some great minutes on the main roster for Orlando. He averaged 4.6 points, 2.0 rebounds, and 1.3 assists. Expect to see growth from him this summer. He should look to push himself, especially with his team seeing amazing growth over the past few seasons and nearing contender status.

Fans will monitor Jaylon Tyson heavily this summer. The Cavaliers were bounced from the playoffs by the Boston Celtics. However, they signed Donovan Mitchell to a contract extension in hopes of making another push to the playoffs. Tyson could be a factor in this, depending on how he does this summer. He was on fire with the California Golden Bears, averaging 19.6 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game.

An interesting pickup for this Summer League team was DJ Burns, who went undrafted in the 2024 NBA Draft. Burns played for the NC State Wolfpack in his final two years of college. He’d end his career with 12.9 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.9 assists. He wasn’t the typically built player in college, as he was 275 pounds at 6’9″. However, he lost over 40 pounds before entering the draft. It will be interesting to see how this affects his gameplay.

Possible Breakout Players of the Game

Orlando Magic

A player to watch this game is four-year guard Charlie Brown Jr. Brown Jr. has been playing on a two-way contract for the Westchester Knicks in 2023-24. He has been bouncing around the G League quite a bit since going undrafted in 2019. However, he finally saw a leap in stats with the Knicks G League team. This season, he averaged a solid 17.7 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 3.3 assists. Expect him to have a good showing in his first Summer League game.

Cleveland Cavaliers

An undrafted player that the Cavs grabbed for the Summer League season is Nae’Qwan Tomlin. This could be a great grab, as Tomlin was a solid part of the Memphis Tigers. His 2023-24 season saw him averaging 14.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks. He also shot 60.1% from the field and 39.6% from three-point land. Tomlin had quite a few breakout games last season, with his highest point total being 28 in a win against the UAB Blazers. Hopefully, he does well in his first NBA 2k25 Summer League game.
