India secured the ICCT Twenty20 World Cup for the second time after beating the African nation a month ago. After achieving success in the T20 World Cup, Indian leader Rohit Sharma announced his departure from the format. Indian media is saying that after the retirement of Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya’s name is coming up for the captaincy of the Indian T20 team. 

The report says that Hardik Pandya may be the new captain of the Indian team in the T20 series against Sri Lanka, while fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is likely to be made the vice-captain.

Rohit Sharma’s time as captain of the Indian T20 team has been defined by notable accomplishments. He guided India to victory in important competitions like the T20 World Cup.

Pandya Appears as the Leading Option

Bumrah and Suryakumar were considered top names for the captaincy. But Pandya is considered the best choice and is expected to lead the squad in the T20I series against Sri Lanka.

India is presently playing a five-match T20I series against Zimbabwe, with Shubman Gill heading the squad. The series is now level 1-1 as the Blues rallied to win by 100 runs in the second Twenty20 International.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Committee of Cricket for Cricket in India (BCCI), declared that Rohit Sharma would captain the Indian cricket team in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 and Champions Trophy 2025. 

Rohit Sharma recently broke India’s 11-year ICC trophy drought by leading the Blues to a T20 World Cup victory over South Africa in a dramatic final in Bridgetown. 

Rohit Sharma was named India’s captain in 2021 when Virat Kohli moved down.

His team has since advanced to the WTC 2021-23 final and the ODI World Cup 2023 final. Then they fell to Australia on both of those occasions. 

“I am sure that under Sharma’s leadership, we will win the WTC Final and the Champions Trophy,” Shah the chairman of the cricket committee stated in a video released by the BCCI. 

Rohit Sharma’s retirement from T20 internationals indicates the end of an era in Indian cricket. The Indian Cricket Board will choose the right candidate for the next T20 skipper. 

Whether it is Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, or another developing leader. It will affect the future of Indian cricket. Many factors are involved in selecting the right candidate.
