Summer League Spotlight: The Worst Players From July 6th

Summer League action has only just begun, but these four games showed off some standout players. However, there were also some players who played poorly in their first game of the California Classic. These players will most likely get better as time passes. There isn’t much preparation that happens before they have to step onto the court. But their struggles must be acknowledged.

Here are some of the worst players from the July 6th losing teams of the California Classic games.

Yang Hansen, of China’s national basketball team, did not give a great performance. Did he play the worst on his team? No. However, he has been highlighted as a possible NBA prospect, so his numbers are a bit easier to scrutinize. He’s only 19, so he has a lot of time to grow his game, but still, he’s already averaging 15.0 points and 10.6 rebounds in the pro leagues with the Qingdao Eagles.

The 7-footer struggled tonight, only contributing eight points and three rebounds. With him being one of the tallest players on the court, this isn’t great. The young center will need to play a lot better in his next Summer League game if he wants his team to come closer to a win.

More Poor Performances

Los Angeles Lakers

For now, we’ll avoid jumping on the bandwagon of Bronny James hate. He didn’t have a great California Classic game, but Dalton Knecht had a worse one. He wasn’t the lowest scorer in the starting five, and neither was James Jr., but this was just a bad showing for Knecht. He ended the game with 12 points, two rebounds, four assists, and two steals. These are not the worst statistics, but boy, did he shoot poorly.

The guard is known for his sharpshooting abilities. However, in today’s game, he went 3-12 from field goal range and 1-4 from three. He also played 26 minutes. One would expect a little more from a top 20 pick. I have no doubt that Knecht will up his game, but this just isn’t a great start. If you’re known for your shooting and then show up and can’t shoot, there’s a problem there.

Miami Heat

A lot of heat is going towards Kel’el Ware right now. He was a first-round draft pick this season, and he had some issues tonight. However, with 12 points and five blocks, it wasn’t the worst performance. This goes to Alondes Williams, who ended the night with two points, three assists, two rebounds, and three steals. He only played 17 minutes, but this is still a bad showing.

Williams isn’t a bad player. He’s currently on the Sioux Falls Skyforce, where he averaged a fantastic 20.3 points per game, 5.3 rebounds per game, and 7.1 assists per game. For some reason, he just couldn’t get going tonight. He went 0-9 from field goal range and 0-3 from three-point land. This was not a great California Classic game for the guard.

San Antonio Spurs

Sidy Cissoko was unable to get things going against the Charlotte Hornets tonight. Many people believe that he could be a decent NBA player, but that wasn’t seen in this game. In his 18 minutes on the court her got eight points, three rebounds, and one assist. Of course, this is just game one and Cissoko has a whole Summer League to prove himself, but he isn’t starting on the right foor.

Anothe quick mention is Jamaree Bouyea. Bouyea has also been a heavily hyped player for a while. The guard only got seven points, however, he managed to pull himself up a bit thanks to his right rebounds. Expect a much better showing from both of these players next game.
