Money in the Bank has been one of the ways to get a new champion but it seems that 2024 will not have that situation happen. Drew McIntyre won the Money in the Bank briefcase and attempted to cash it in on the same night but things did not go according to plan.
After winning the briefcase, McIntyre decided to cash in during the Damian Priest vs. Seth Rollins World Heavyweight Championship match later in the show, making it a triple threat. However, Damian Priest was able to win the match after CM Punk showed up and attacked Drew McIntyre, making him unable to win the match.
This means McIntyre will again lose a chance to win the World Heavyweight Championship due to CM Punk. There are a few different directions that they can go with this story but let’s look at how things look going forward.
What can WWE do with the CM Punk vs. Drew McIntyre feud next?
It is clear that things are going to be picking up in the CM Punk vs. Drew McIntyre feud as they are still to have a wrestling match. Punk cost McIntyre the World Heavyweight Championship after winning the title at Wrestlemania Night 2 and costing McIntyre multiple opportunities to win the title back.
However, Punk has been cleared for in-ring competition and Summerslam is considered one of the biggest shows on the WWE calendar annually. It is time for the two to have their first match at Summerslam as they have managed to not wrestle since this feud started back at Royal Rumble 2024 when Drew McIntyre hit a Future Shock DDT on Punk, tearing his tricep.
While they can have a feud that last multiple Premium Live Events that can build, this grudge has been going on for months. It saw Drew McIntyre quit the company and return five days later to destroy Punk in front of his hometown so a blowoff match like Hell in a Cell or a Three Stages of Hell match could be a way to do one match.
With Punk’s health, planning a long story where he can remain healthy is a major risk.
