Chicago Sky’s Angel Reese is one game away from making WNBA history for the most double-doubles in the league. The Sky forward’s explosive performance against the Seattle Storm makes her a top candidate for the Rookie of the Year Award.

Also, the Sky’s No. 5 player had an amazing second half against the Seattle Storm. She managed to break two career-high records against the Storm in the second and fourth quarters of the game that you weren’t aware of.

Thus, this was how Reese tied her WNBA record with the LA Sparks’ round-one pick.

Chicago Sky’s Angel Reese Explodes vs. Seattle Storm

The Seattle team led by Nneka Ogwumike started the storm at the Climate Pledge arena against the Sky. Also, the Storm dominated the first quarter of the game while the Sky team yearned for stamina to compete in the first quarter. Thankfully, they have a big-time, record-breaking rookie to lead the charge.

Despite the storm, Sky forward Reese maintained her composure by clinching three offensive rebounds out of four rebounds in the first quarter and making layups for the team to put them close to the lead. Reese’s huge effort got her the tie for the record.

While the Sky and Storm battled in the second quarter, Reese broke her WNBA record by making her first three-point shot towards the end of the first half to make the score 40-42. The first half finished with the Storm leading the scoreboard, but Reese was starting to help chip away at the lead.

Rookie Forward Causes Turning Point in Game

Angel Reese helped put the Sky on top when she assisted a three-point shot to Marina Mabrey. This began the Sky’s explosive performance. Reese was a key component of the new energy on the court, thanks to her record-breaking efforts.

Reese was part of the action as she switched from grabbing offensive rebounds to defensive rebounds in the fourth quarter and made another three-point shot from 26 feet. The 22-year-old forward weathered the storm by making her free throws to end the game in Sky’s favor. The Sky won against Storm with a four-point margin (88-84) thanks to Reese’s efforts.

Angel Resse got a career-high of 27 points with 10 rebounds. This puts her at the top of the double-double mountain in the WNBA. Now, she sits next to veteran legend Candace Parker.

Reese Ties With Candace Parker In Double-Double Record

Candace Parker retired as a three-time WNBA champion after playing for the Las Vegas Aces, Los Angeles Spark, and Chicago Sky. She got the nickname “Ace” due to her legendary performance throughout her WNBA career.

Reese broke Parker’s record of double-doubles in nine straight games in a season against the Las Vegas Aces. Then, ties with the LA Sparks’ round-one pick in 12 double-doubles in multiple games.

The 6’ 3 Sky forward is one game away from making WNBA History. If this happens, she will become the number one candidate for the 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year award, followed by Caitlin Clark. Currently, Angel Reese averages 13.9 points and 11.7 rebounds per game, making 41% of her field goal attempts.

Final Thoughts

Angel Reese should be a no-brainer winner of the Rookie of the Year award in 2024 if she improves her three-point game to average 20+ points per game this season. Caitlin Clark follows closely behind her. However, with the way Reese is shattering records, it seems like she is the best choice for the award. Both of these rookies are phenomenal, as they keep breaking personal and WNBA records. Angel Reese is truly making a name for herself outside of the college sphere.
