The New York Yankees have been dealing with a lot of struggles as they have lost 14 of their previous 19 games heading into their series with the Boston Red Sox. One of the components to the struggles has been the lack of hitting as well as some injuries and the team found themselves dealing with an additional injury on Friday night.
With runners on first and second base with one out, second baseman Gleyber Torres was able to beat out an infield single but came up with an injury and immediately exited the game. He was replaced by Oswaldo Cabrera as a pinch-runner and the New York Yankees announced he left with right groin tightness.
The team’s full announcement is below:
“Gleyber Torres exited with right groin tightness. He was examined by a physicia and there are no plans for imaging at this time.”
That typically means a good sign and that Torres may be able to avoid a stint on the Injured List. This is the second time in the last few weeks that he exited the game due to groin tightness.
What does the Gleyber Torres injury mean for the New York Yankees going forward?

The New York Yankees have been struggling as of late and losing Gleyber Torres will continue to test their depth during their weakest moment right now after being swept by the struggling Cincinnati Reds. The team can ill-afford to lose another hitter, despite his struggles this season.
Gleyber Torres has been unable to get going as he has a .638 OPS with eight home runs, 33 RBIs, 40 runs scored and four stolen bases on six attempts. He has not been able to live up to the hype on a contract year as he becomes a free agent after the season. It sounds like the New York Yankees are confident that he will be able to return to the lineup as early as tomorrow’s game as there will be no imaging done. However, do not be fooled if the Yankees have him sit for a few games to get some rest and have players like Jahmai Jones or Oswaldo Cabrera play in his place.
