The Indian cricket team led by Rohit Sharma has finally arrived in Delhi after their successful 2024 T20 World Cup campaign. On an Air India aircraft, the T20 global champions arrived at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi at about 6:05 a.m.
At approximately 7:00 a.m., the Indian squad with their skipper Rohit Sharma, exited the airport and boarded their bus.
While the rest of the squad entered the bus first, captain Rohit Sharma appeared with the T20 World Cup trophy in his palm, leaving airport supporters breathless.
Hundreds of supporters braved the cold to welcome the triumphant side, who defeated South Africa by seven runs in the final in Bridgetown on Saturday last week.
“We’ve been waiting for this moment for the past 13 years. “The team has made us proud by winning the World Cup,” said a supporter who claimed to have been waiting since 4:30 a.m., alluding to India’s last World Cup victory in 2011.

The Indian team then proceeded to the ITC Maurya Hotel in Chanakyapuri, where they were greeted warmly once again. A cake decorated with the colors of the Indian team’s shirt was also created for the heroes.
Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and other squad members have been trapped in Barbados (the location of the final) since Monday when airports were closed owing to Hurricane Beryl’s impact on the Caribbean city.
However, thanks to a special airplane booked for Team India, they were able to land in the early hours of Thursday morning. The players are now expected to see Prime Minister Narendra Modi before participating in an open-top bus procession in Mumbai.
Air India granted India’s return aircraft a unique call sign, AIC24WC, which stands for Air India Champions 24 World Cup. Rohit Sharma’s team is set to visit Prime Minister Narendra Modi later today, around 11 a.m., in the national capital.
Exciting Plans for Celebrations

The players will then go to Mumbai for a special celebration to commemorate their T20 World Cup victory. The players and crew will be in Mumbai by 4 p.m., where they will celebrate for the next two hours in an open-top bus procession across the city.
The bus procession is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. at the National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA), near the famed Nariman Point, and will go along Marine Drive until it reaches the Wankhede Stadium.
The winning players will be honored at an event scheduled between 7 and 7:30 p.m. “It’s coming home,” Indian captain Rohit Sharma tweeted, inviting supporters to join the squad for a celebration bus parade.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) released a unique video when Team India arrived with the T20 World Cup 2024 trophy. The video opens with the ‘Player of the Series’, Jasprit Bumrah, unwrapping a package.
Then enter Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Yuzvendra Chahal, and other players, who take a peak into the box containing the dazzling trophy. As the video proceeds, one can see the ecstatic cricket players beaming.
Jay Shah, BCCI secretary, arranged for a special chartered Air India jet to transport Team India back from Barbados. On June 29, India defeated South Africa by seven runs, claiming the T20 World Cup championship after 17 years.
This will not be the first time a bus parade passes through Mumbai; a similar event occurred when MS Dhoni and a young India team won the first 2007 T20 World Cup.
