Wimbledon began with the vigor expected of a tournament of its stature and hasn’t slowed down since Monday. The All England Club has hosted the oldest tennis tournament since 1877 and has since then seen some of the greatest ever matches played on its courts.
On Monday, the defending champion, Carlos Alcaraz, started his title defense with a routine win, while the new world No. 1, Jannik Sinner, had to dig deep to overcome a resilient opponent. On Tuesday, the world watched with bated breaths while the seven-time champion, Novak Djokovic, played his first competitive match back from a knee injury in the Center Court.
On Tuesday, two-time champion and “legend of our sport,” as Novak Djokovic described him, Andy Murray, opted to withdraw from the Wimbledon singles draw, still recovering from back surgery. The British tennis legend would miss out on participating in the singles edition of the tournament but will feature with his brother Jamie in the men’s doubles. He’d also play with 2021 US Open winner Emily Raducanu in the mixed doubles.
Nakashima’s Good Form In Wimbledon Continues

Brandon Nakashima has made it into the third round of the Wimbledon Championships after defeating Jordan Thompson in the second round of the tournament. The American would face Ugo Humbert in the third round. Nakashima entered the Wimbledon Championships as an unseeded player, ranked 65th in the world.
After two consecutive runs to the semifinals for Brandon Nakashima in the Surbiton Trophy and the Stuttgart Open, the American fell short in the Queen’s Club Championships, losing in the second round to eventual finalist Lorenzo Musetti.
The American’s first match in the Wimbledon Championships was against Argentina’s Sebastian Baez, the tournament’s 18th seed and the ATP-ranked 18th-best player in the world. Nakashima was ruthless in the match, winning four of eleven breakpoints on Baez’s serve to defeat the Argentine, 6-2, 6-3, 6-4.
Tiafoe Eases Through Clash With Coric
Frances Tiafoe has moved into the third round of the Wimbledon Championships after a convincing straight-sets win over Croatia’s Borna Coric in the second round. The first set of their clash had dragged into a tiebreak before Tiafoe rallied himself to overrun his opponent to win the next two sets, 6-1, 6-3.
Before the Wimbledon Championships, Frances Tiafoe had lost two consecutive matches on tour. His first loss had come to Jack Draper in the quarterfinals of the Stuttgart Open, the eventual winner denying him the opportunity to defend his Stuttgart title. Then, he lost to Rinky Hijikata in the first round of the Queen’s Club Championships.
Frances Tiafoe started his Wimbledon campaign in a very unconvincing fashion, losing his first two sets to Matteo Arnaldi. In a best-of-three match, he’d have been out. He rallied himself immediately after his second-set loss to Arnaldi to win the next three sets. The American has been on a roll since then.
Humbert Getting Back His Form At Wimbledon

After a gritty five-set clash with Alexander Shevchenko in the first round of the Wimbledon Championships, Ugo Humbert has stepped up his game. The Frenchman took on Dutch Botic van de Zandschulp, a player who himself has underperformed this season. Humbert overcame him with a tiebreak after a tightly contested first set, then went on to sweep through the next two sets 6-1, 6-3.
Ugo Humbert didn’t begin the grass-court season exactly like he would’ve wanted. He had an impressive semifinal finish in the Libema Open, where he was knocked out by the eventual winner and the tournament’s top seed, Alex De Minaur.
Since then, he underperformed in the following two tournaments, dropping out after losing in his first matches in the first round of the Queen’s Club Championships and the second round of the Mallorca Championships.
