Indiana Fever Duo Headline 2024 WNBA All-Stars

The Connecticut Sun face the Washington Mystics this afternoon.

The WNBA announced the All-Star selections for the 2024 season featuring a collection of talent from around the league including three members of the Indiana Fever. In a unique twist the the summer basketball showcase, the WNBA’s best talent will help the United States Women’s basketball team tune up for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games later this month. 

According to the official press release from the WNBA, the Indiana Fever’s Aliyah Boston was the leader of the total votes when all of the applicable votes were tallied. “The initial selection of the All-Stars was conducted through a combination of voting by fans (50 percent of the vote), current WNBA players (25 percent), and a national panel of sportswriters and broadcasters (25 percent).” 

Caitlin Clark Takes Fan Vote With 700,000 Ballots

As expected, uber-popular Indiana Fever Guard Caitlin Clark won the fan voting portion with 700,735 ballots cast for Clark to appear in her first AT&T WNBA All-Star Game. Teammate Aliyah Boston was not too distant in second place (618K) in the fan’s eyes.  Las Vegas’ Aj’a Wilson (607K), New York’s  Brianna Stewart (424K), and Chicago’s Angel Reese (381K) finish the top five in fan voting. 

Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese are the only first-time All-Stars to appear in the July 20 game in Phoenix, Arizona as both rookies create a mark in their first WNBA seasons. Clark is averaging 16 points and 7 assists per game in her first 21 professional games. Meanwhile, Reese has been a beast on the glass averaging a 13-point, 12 rebound double-double in 18 games.  

2024 AT&T WNBA All-Star Game on July 20

The WNBA will be celebrating the stars of the league over two days between July 19-20, 2024. The Starry WNBA 3-point competition and the KIA Skills Challenge will occur on Friday (07/19) at 9 pm EST at Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona.  The participants in these events have not yet been announced. 

The following night, the same home of three-time WNBA Champion Phoenix Mercury will play host to the 2024 AT&T WNBA All-Star Game. The basketball exhibition will be broadcast on ABC starting at 8:30 pm EST featuring the best women’s basketball players the WNBA has to offer. 

WNBA vs. USA Basketball Women’s National Team

Four players are automatically assigned to “Team WNBA” since they are not members of the USAWNT roster for the Paris Games. Indiana’s Aliyah Boston & Caitlin Clark, LA’s Dearica Hamby, and Dallas’ Arike Ogunbowale finished in the top 10 in voting, therefore receiving automatic participation in the 2024 AT&T WNBA All-Star Game.  

WNBA head coaches voted on the remaining selections for the 2024 AT&T WNBA All-Star Game with the restriction of not being able to vote for one’s players:

“The additional eight players who are named to the 2024 AT&T WNBA All-Star Game are (listed alphabetically): DeWanna Bonner (Connecticut Sun), Allisha Gray (Atlanta Dream), Brionna Jones (Connecticut), Jonquel Jones (New York) Kayla McBride (Minnesota Lynx), Kelsey Mitchell (Indiana), Nneka Ogwumike (Seattle Storm) and Angel Reese (Chicago Sky).”

The USA Basketball Women’s National Team announced their 2024 Paris Olympics roster a few weeks ago. Highlighted by four Las Vegas Aces (Chelsea Gray, Kelsey Plum, A’ja Wilson, & Jackie Young) the USAWNT roster featured superstar talent from top to bottom. 

Roster decisions regarding replacements for an unavailable player will be handled by their respective organizations, the WNBA or USA Basketball. WNBA Commissioner Cathy Englert holds the authority to name a replacement athlete to participate for Team WNBA at the 2024 AT&T WNBA All-Star.
