Team France Continues To Dominate Thanks to Victor Wembanyama

The NBA Rookie of the Year had an amazing first season in the NBA and is now balling out for Team France. Though his San Antonio Spurs fell to the bottom of the standings, he shined on the court. It’s clear that he’ll be the face of the league for the next coming years. In all honesty, we will probably see the French hooper lift a few trophies during his time in the NBA. His incredible athleticism, mixed with his knowledge of the game, gives him a clear advantage here.

His skills have translated well into every league he has played in, and now the French phenomenon is getting the chance to represent Team France on the big stage. The Olympics are calling Wemby’s name, and he has the chance to answer in the best way possible.

From the moment the whistle blew and the ball was thrown in the air for tip-off, it was obvious who was going to win. This French team bullied Turkey every single play, and with Victor Wembanyama on the court, it was nearly impossible for them to score. The young player went off on both offense and defense.

Wemby had himself 24 points during the match in almost 20 minutes. He also had six rebounds and four assists. His team ended up winning the game in a blowout of 96-46. The giant was smooth in the paint, getting his easy layups and knocking down the midrange jumpers. He also made two of his four attempted three-point shots.

A Brick Wall on Defense

Everyone knew Wemby was going to be a problem in the paint. He’s too tall to really drive at and one wrong move and the ball is going to get swatted into the stands. During this game, he had one steal and three blocked shots, but that doesn’t show how critical his defense is for this team.

With Victor Wembanyama on the court, Turkey’s team went 1/24 from the field. This shows how important this player is. Just being present on the court and showing some active defense is enough to put the opposition on pause. It was miss after miss for Turkey as Wemby loomed over them. This will be a constant during the Olympics as teams try to figure out how to deal with the seven-footer. It also helps that he is being paired with another NBA giant, Rudy Gobert, who is once again proving to be a danger on defense.

With the two giants working together on defense, France has been pretty unstoppable. Most teams will probably need to creat a game plan just to deal with these two players.

The real test for Team France will be how they’ll hand Team USA. It is well known that the United States has put together what is being dubbed the ‘Redeem Team.’ This is a team that consists of some of the best players in the USA. It includes LeBron James, Stephon Curry, and current NBA Champion Jayson Tatum. This will surely be an unstoppable force meeting an immovable object.

France will have to ramp up the defense if they want to spoil USA’s redemption year. They’ll be dealing with elite sharpshooters and some lockdown defenders as well. It will be heavily up to Wemby to shut down the paint and be a nuisance to those trying to shoot beyond the arch. A game against these two teams would be extremely exciting to watch for both sides. It gives Victor Wembanyama and Team France the chance to really prove that they have what it takes to win their first Olympic gold.
