Drew Dober Receives New Opponent, Will Face Recent UFC 303 Winner on July 13

Following a week of uncertainty, Drew Dober has received a second opponent for his next fight to remain on the UFC Denver card on July 13.

As a native of Omaha, Nebraska, Dober joined the Denver-based Elevation Fight Team shortly after making his UFC debut and has been living in the Mile High City ever since. Having not fought in Denver since 2013, the lightweight veteran was initially scheduled to face Mike Davis at the UFC Denver event before the oft-injured contender suffered another setback.

Jean Silva Steps in on Short Notice to Face Drew Dober

In replace of Mike Davis, UFC featherweight Jean Silva will move up a division on short notice to face Drew Dober on the UFC Denver fight card. Silva was announced as Dober’s next opponent 10 days ahead of their scheduled bout and four days after picking up a win over Charles Jourdain at UFC 303.

Should Silva safely make it to fight night, he would become the first fighter to compete in consecutive pay-per-view events since Deiveson Figueiredo and Brandon Moreno fought on both UFC 255 and UFC 256 in 2020. In that fight, Figueiredo set the record for shortest turnaround by a champion in between title fights and became the first to headline two straight pay-per-view events in the modern era.

Though Silva has been a career featherweight, he was the only fighter to miss weight at UFC 303, weighing in at 147.5 pounds, a pound and a half over the divisional limit. Silva’s win at UFC 303 improved his record to 13-2 and 2-0 in the UFC.

Having been with the UFC since 2013, Drew Dober has become one of the biggest fan favorites in the promotion behind his entertaining fight style and likable personality. With a 13-9 record through 22 fights in the Octagon, Dober has never been ranked in the top 10 of the lightweight division but has remained at the edge of the UFC rankings while consistently delivering memorable performances.

Dober last fought at UFC Vegas 85, losing a unanimous decision to Renato Moicano. Before that outing, the 35-year-old finished Ricky Glenn in the first round to tie Dustin Poirier with the most knockouts in the UFC’s 155-pound division with nine.

Since 2020, Dober has accumulated six post-fight bonuses in 10 fights, adding up to an additional $300,000 earned on top of his contracted salary. Before his recent loss to Moicano, Dober was ranked in the top 15 but has since been removed after Max Holloway’s debut in the divisional rankings after his impressive BMF title win at UFC 300 over Justin Gaethje.

As the lone dark mark of the UFC 303 weigh-ins, Jean Silva did not have a lot of expectations for his bout with Charles Jourdain on the prelims of the formidable event. However, the bad taste that he left in fans’ mouths from the previous night was quickly wiped away on June 29 as Silva became the first person to knock out Jourdain.

The win was Silva’s 10th consecutive, building on his win streak that started in 2018. The Brazilian was visibly loose in the Octagon and comfortable in striking exchanges as he knocked the Canadian down in the first round before finishing him in the second.

Jourdain, 28, has been a veteran of the division since signing with the promotion in 2019, going 6-7-1. Though his promotional record is not impressive on paper, Jourdain nearly cracked the 145-pound rankings on several occasions and had previously only lost to elite talent in the weight class.
