Breaking News: Twins Promote Star Prospect Brooks Lee to Replace Injured Lewis

Brooks Lee

Welcome to the Majors, Brooks Lee. Twins hot prospect Brooks Lee has been promoted from the Triple-A St. Paul Saints to replace the injured Royce Lewis. Unfortunately, this long-awaited move was precipitated by an injury to the Twins’ young star. Lewis exited last night’s game against the Tigers with a groin injury. He will undergo more tests today to determine the severity of the injury.

Fast Path to the Majors

This continues Lee’s rapid rise through the Twins system. Lee was drafted by Minnesota with the eighth overall pick in the 2022 MLB Amateur Draft out of Cal Poly San Obispo. It was widely believed that he was the steal of the draft. He played 31 games for the team that year for three different minor league teams. He finished the year with an impressive slash line of .389/.451/.839.

Then, in 2023, splitting his time between Double-A Wichita and Triple-A St. Paul, Lee belted 16 home runs, recorded 84 RBIs, and scored 83 runs. Many observers believed he would break camp with the Twins to start the 2024 season.

Lee Misses Time but Comes Back Strong

Unfortunately for Brooks Lee, he suffered a herniated disk during spring training this year and was forced to sit out of the game action until early June. But he made up for lost time as he has hit 361/.432/.667 in 17 games. It was recently announced that Lee was selected by MLB to play in the Futures Game and a newly created skills competition during the All-Star Game festivities.

At the time of his promotion, Brooks Lee was the second-ranked prospect in the Twins system and ranked 13th overall on MLB Pipeline’s Top 100 list. He is a switch-hitter and has proven to be a standout defensive player at second base, third base, and shortstop.

That is a question that has yet to be answered. Willi Castro at second base and Jose Miranda at third base both have had exemplary seasons for the Twins so far and deserve extended playing time. And Carlos Correa is having an All-Star season at shortstop, so he is untouchable.

Lee will most likely spend time spelling all three players while also spending some time at DH. But the Twins know he is too valuable to keep out of the lineup for too long. As for Lewis, there is no timeline yet for his return until the results of the imaging tests come back.
