Star Bayer Leverkusen Defender Keen On Bayern Munich Move Despite Premier League Links

Bayer Leverkusen might be thinking to themselves – do we need a boisterous squad? They performed exceptionally well in the Bundesliga last year, beating other top teams like Dortmund, Stuttgart, and Bayern Munich to win the domestic trophy and sit on top of the table by a hefty margin. But, they could see some of their players go elsewhere if they are unhappy with playing time, sitting on the bench, or coaching tactics.

One of their key players is debating about going to Bayern Munich or the Premier League instead of staying with the Bundesliga winners for the 2024-2025 season.

Bayer Leverkusen Player to go Elsewhere

One of Bayer Leverkusen’s critical players in the squad, Jonathan Tah, is reportedly thinking of going to Bayern Munich this summer transfer window. He also has extreme interest from Premier League teams, but no word has been said on whether there have been negotiations with any English clubs as of yet.

Jonathan Tah is a German footballer who is reaching his prime in the game. At 28 years old, he is a well-respected center back within the league, has ample experience in the Bundesliga, but still has years left for a club to invest in a contract with him.

He began his career at Altona 93 and then moved to SC Concordia and Hamburger SV in their youth teams. He thrived at Hamburger SV in the German league, moving up to the Hamburger SV II team and the full senior squad in 2013, where he amassed 16 appearances in two seasons. To get more game time as a youngster, he also had a successful loan spell at Fortuna Dusseldorf, where he played 23 games.

Then, he moved to Bayer Leverkusen in 2015 and never looked back. He is one of the stalwarts at the club, even at a young age in footballing terms. He has made 258 appearances for his long-time club and has even scored twelve goals as a center-back in all competitions.

Tah signed a lucrative five-year deal in 2015 that saw Bayer Leverkusen put a lot of faith and trust into the player – and he repaid them with stellar performances and a long-time commitment. In 2018, Bayer Leverkusen was so pleased with the player they preemptively extended his contract until 2023.

Now, Tah is considering going elsewhere so that he can get more time on the pitch.

But, does that really make sense? We don’t think so. Tah has played in more than 30 games each of his last three Bundesliga seasons, showing he is a regular starter and 90-minute player for his team.

However, he is still considering moving clubs. Going to Bayern Munich wouldn’t make a lot of sense – as he would be dropping down in level – but going to the Premier League could be best for bolstering his career.

Bayer Leverkusen Going Forward

If Bayer Leverkusen loses Tah to a Premier League club, they will be in desperate need of another defender. Currently, they have Jeremie Frimpong, Grimaldo, Piero Hincapie, Stanisic, Tapsoba, and Kossonou as their main defenders. With The out of the mix, one of the less-experienced center-backs will have to step up and see if they can partner well with their other players and the defensive midfielder.

In the midfield, the starting lineup is surely Florian Wirtz, Andrich, and Palacios. So, the replacement for Tah at Leverkusen will have to dictate the center midfield rotation and get along with his teammates.
