Dallas Mavericks Take 1st Quarter Lead
The first half of the first quarter was a back-and-forth game with a total of four early lead changes. Then the Mavericks went on a 10-0 run and maintained the lead for the rest of the quarter.
The Dallas Mavericks shot 58% from the field, making 24 shots, and 42% from three-point range, making seven shots. In comparison, the Boston Celtics shot 38% from the field on 21 shots and 22% from three-point range on nine shots. The Mavericks also out-rebounded the Celtics 16 to 6 in the first quarter.
Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving combined for 22 points in the first quarter, while their role players added a total of 12 points. The quarter ended with the Mavericks up by 13 points, scoring 34 to 21.
Dallas Mavericks Dominate 2nd Quarter
The Dallas Mavericks extended their late run from the first quarter, building a 17-point lead in the second quarter with 7:00 minutes left. Then the Mavericks outscored the Celtics 11 to 4, increasing their lead to 20 with 6:36 left in the quarter. With 5:16 left, the Mavericks brought their lead to 25. The Celtics finally scored soon after, bringing their points scored in the quarter to a mere seven, in contrast to the Mavericks’ 18 points.
Luka Doncic scored 12 points in the quarter. Jayson Tatum scored only 4 points, compared to his 11 points in the first quarter. The Mavericks continued to out-rebound the Celtics 29 to 13.
The Dallas Mavericks’ shooting percentage dropped to 52%, and their three-point percentage dropped to 33%. However, they finished the half shooting 62% from the free throw line on a total of 16 shots. In contrast, the Boston Celtics’ shooting percentage dropped to 29% from the field, and their three-point percentage dropped to 26%.
The Mavericks finished the half with a 26-point lead, with the score at 61 to 35. The Mavericks scored a total of 27 points in the quarter, compared to the Celtics’ mere 14 points.
The Dallas Mavericks Ended The Game In The Third Quarter
The Dallas Mavericks continued to dominate halfway through the 3rd quarter. With 7:28 left in the quarter, Dereck Lively knocked down a free throw to increase the lead to 34 points. Then, with 3:18 left, Lively extended the lead again with a monster dunk, bringing it to a 36-point lead.
Lively had been absent in recent games on the offensive end, but he was productive in this game. He finished with 11 points, 12 rebounds, and seven offensive rebounds. This was significant, considering the Mavericks had 13 second-chance points compared to the Celtics’ zero.
Jayson Tatum did not score in the third quarter, and Jaylen Brown scored six points. Both ended the game with fewer than 15 points, which is well below average for the duo.
The Dallas Mavericks ended the third quarter shooting 50% from the field and 30% from three-point range. In contrast, the Boston Celtics shot 37% from the field and 33% from three-point range. The quarter ended with the Mavericks leading 92 to 60.
The Boston Celtics gave up at the start of the fourth quarter, and both teams took out their starters. The final score of the game was 122 to 84.
