In a match dominated by bowlers, who contributed a marvelous all-round display, Team India emerged a 6-run winner in a match against Pakistan. It has led to more despair for Pakistan, who are now on the verge of exiting the T20 World Cup, according to the murmurs of the fans and professional critics.
Afridi Criticizes Pakistan’s Batting Performance

On his YouTube channel, Pakistan’s former captain, Shahid Afridi, also spoke about the game, commenting on the performance of the side. He explained that it was expected to be easy to set a target of 120 runs for Pakistan while batting 120 balls. Afridi later noted that at least India was 35–40 runs short in terms of putting up a competitive target, thus hinting at the Pakistan team’s misread.
Reliance on Bowlers Under Scrutiny

Lashing out at such an approach, Afridi derisively informed the management that it is the batting department that is expected to deliver the runs, but only the bowlers are being loaded with the responsibility of winning matches. Lala was seen disappointed with the result and rightly so. He has been a match-winner throughout his career and has delivered with both bat and ball. It was heartbreaking as he came out lashing against the Pakistan team. Afridi said:
‘Why? Because we [Pakistan] always blame the bowlers for not being able to restrict teams to small totals’, the captain further observed, ‘Its mindset has been set so that we just do not want to score. ’ And for this reason, the captain wanted a more inclusive approach.
However, in light of the present form and a couple of matches being consecutive defeats, Afridi negatively pointed towards the T-20 World Cup:
“I knew we [Pakistan] didn’t get such a total with such a powerful batting side, but still, I never expected this much lust surrender… I have no words but disappointment,” he said, expressing the feelings of all fans.

Pakistan’s Path to Super 8s
But this does not remove the Pakistan cricket team from the tournament, as they still have an opportunity to make it to the Super 8s. They must beat the Canadian and Irish teams in the last two games and hope for other final matches to go their way. This means that their next game against Canada is inconsequential and very important, as it determines whether the team will continue with their World Cup.
Abuse of the game situation, lack of application and discipline in batting, lack of intent to dominate, and leadership failure during the pulse-pounding defeat to India have brought out several gaps in Pakistan’s batting approach and team culture. With their World Cup campaign hanging by a thread, the upcoming matches will be decisive in determining their fate in the tournament. Moreover, the team’s chances of qualifying depending on other teams’ failure, has kind of become a norm for the Pakistan team.
