Novak Djokovic Dropped 2 Places In The New PIF ATP Rankings

Novak Djokovic started the 2024 ATP Tour as the No. 1 rated player on the tour after a phenomenal 2023. The great Serbian got to the finals of all four Grand Slams in 2023, winning three of them except Wimbledon which he lost to Carlos Alcaraz.

In addition to the Grand Slam titles, Novak Djokovic had also won two Masters 1000 titles and the year-end Nitto ATP Finals for the seventh time and the second consecutive time. Until the French Open began in May, he had been the world No. 1 since September 2023.

2024 hasn’t been as favorable for the 24-time Grand Slam champion. Novak Djokovic has had a record of 18 wins and six losses so far. He hasn’t gotten to any tournament’s final so far and it’s the longest since 2017 he’s played a season without winning a title.

Jannik Sinner Ranked World No. 1

Novak Djokovic was the top seed for the French Open being ranked No. 1 in the PIF ATP rankings, but at the time of the live rankings, Jannik Sinner had accumulated more points and looked set to finish the tournament ranked ahead of the Serbian.

After two consecutive five-set matches against Lorenzo Musetti and Francisco Cerundolo respectively, Novak Djokovic had to withdraw from the French Open before his quarterfinal clash with Casper Ruud due to an injury he’d gotten during his match with Cerundolo.

At this point, Jannik Sinner had defeated Grigor Dimitrov to qualify for the quarterfinals of the tournament. Djokovic’s withdrawal meant Sinner would be ranked No. 1 at the time the next rankings would’ve been read being already ahead in the live rankings.

Carlos Alcaraz Pushes Novak Djokovic To 3rd

Carlos Alcaraz

Close behind Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic in the rankings has been Carlos Alcaraz in the No. 3 position. Jannik Sinner lost to Carlos Alcaraz in the semifinal of the French Open which meant he accumulated 9525 points to Djokovic’s 8360.

After Carlos Alcaraz won the title and accumulated the maximum points, he topped Djokovic’s 8360 points, securing the 2nd spot in the new rankings with 8580. Jannik Sinner is currently the first-ever Italian to rise to the summit of the ATP rankings, while Alcaraz is back up to second after dropping to 3rd in April.

Alex De Minaur Returns To The Top 10

Another big mover on the rankings is Alex De Minaur who returned to his career-high ranking of 9th which he achieved in February 2024 but lost in March. Stefano Tsitsipas has dropped out of the top 10 for the second time this year.

Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime has climbed three places to 18th while Karen Khachanov dropped four places to 22nd. Jan-Lennard Struff, Cameron Norrie, and Laslo Djere were the biggest movers in the top 50, with Struff and Djere both climbing six places to 35th and 46th respectively while Cameron Norrie dropped six places to 39th.
