England fast bowler Mark Wood has described the next game against Australia on Saturday. Big saying the rain out of the game against Scotland on Tuesday put the team off balance. This created a stalemate and both teams had what they wanted.
Cricket fans may well see Australia losing to Barbados, and the final pair of games against Namibia and Oman turning into ‘do or die’ for the previous year’s winners. Wood also called the game saying they don’t need to be motivated for the match because it’s a rivalry game but the added carrot – points – makes it even bigger.
Mark Wood: England’s vs Australia is a “Massive” Game After Scotland Washout
England fast bowler Mark Wood calls Saturday England’s match against Australia a “massive” game after a rain washout against Scotland on Tuesday. This resulted in the match ending in a draw with both England and Scotland garnering a point each. Loss in Barbados at the hands of Australia may make the final two matches against Namibia and Oman decisive for the defending champion.
”And it is quite obviously a hefty game with what is yet to happen,” Wood said in an interview with the BBC. “It is a game you never, I mean never, have to be motivated to get up for because the other team is your rivals and all that other nonsense but it is now a game that becomes immensely important due to points.”
Each group is accompanied by the two teams with the most points which advance to the Super 8 round. Namibia are currently top of Group B after they beat Oman in a super over on Sunday while Australia play their first match of the tournament against Oman later on Wednesday (01:30 BST Thursday).

England to Face Oman and Namibia in Antigua
Next, they will take on Oman on Thursday 13 June, and then Namibia two days later both of which events are expected to take place in Antigua. [against Australia] It is a big chance for us if we get points on the board: Wood “If we don’t [qualify], that makes everything important and you have to win big [to boost net run-rate] – especially with weather factor around.”
The only match that took place between England and Scotland was limited to just 10 overs, and the underdogs performed well by scoring 90 for 0 in 10 overs. Speaking about the match England’s head coach, Matthew Mott expressed, his team started the match very poorly while Wood caught George Munsey off a no-ball. Wood responded that he would speak with the press about it in some of the trainings in the next few days.
“I bowled thirteen balls the other day, one of the balls was a wicket and it is the ball which I have No balled.” Said wood. If any of the others was the no-ball I am probably here right now thinking no big deal let’s move and because of that I am contributing to the team by taking the wicket off it, it is a problem. “That’s what disappoints me.
