An Arsenal fan, and a season ticket holder, Scott Law, 43, has been found guilty of assault on the former Manchester United Midfielder Roy Keane. The incident occurred on September 3rd of last year.
Roy Keane was allegedly left in shock after he was attacked and headbutted by an Arsenal fan in a premier league fixture between Arsenal and Manchester United at the Emirate stadium.
Though the father of two and a civil engineer had denied assaulting the sky sports pundit Keane, and inflicting him with bruises, he was still found guilty by a District Judge Following a three-day trial last week at Highbury Corner Magistrate Court.
How it All Started Between Roy Keane and Arsenal Fan Scott Law
It all started in Arsenal’s 3-1 Premier League victory against Manchester United. In the match, Roy Keane was working as a pundit for Sky Sports, whilst Law was seated close to the glass-fronted Sky’s studio.
According to the prosecution, Garnacho’s disallowed goal catalyzed the assault.
Law made an obscene gesture towards Keane who was broadcasting the game after Alejandro Ganarcho’s goal was disallowed.
“The prosecution said that from the moment the VAR disallowed that Manchester United goal, the defendant, we say, appears to make an obscene gesture towards those in the Sky Sports studio which of course included Roy Keane.” This aggressive gesture suggests he had an intent of violence from the outset.” An after the match, the obscene hand gesture assault, fractioned into a physical assault incident.
The Attack from Roy Keane’s View
According to Roy Keane and his lawyer, After the match had ended and he was heading down the pitch to do the match commentary, he was hit with such force that knocked him back through a set of doors. he couldn’t believe it. He was shocked as well as he didn’t expect such to happen in a workplace.
“I was just walking and before I knew it, I was hit,” he told the court, “I was absolutely not expecting it.”
Keane said he felt “large contact” on the side of his face and the left side of his chest and that he fell back through a set of doors.
“I couldn’t believe what had happened,” Keane said. “I was in shock. I didn’t expect it to happen, not when I was in my workplace.”
Micah Richards who was also at the scene of the attack restrained him from further attacking Keane but couldn’t get hold of him enough to escape. Michah was also shocked that such could happen.
Keane suffered bruises chest. And the Arsenal Fan was later arrested the following day.
The Attack from Arsenal Fan Scott Law’s View
In Scott’s defense, his lawyer alleged that Scott Law had never actually assaulted anyone. Rather it was Roy Keane who is a known football hardman and loves to revel in the glory of such, who had been the one to have committed an assault.
In trying to prove this case, Mr. Sherreds, Scott’s lawyer, claimed that:
- the idea of Keane getting headbutted in the chest is impossible as both Keane and Scott are both 5ft11 in height.
- Keane was the actual aggressor as he confronted Scott whilst he was heading to the toilet and said to him, “Say it to my face you fat c***”.
- That the actual physical aggressor was Roy Keane who was caught on CCTV camera, in the aftermath of the initial confrontation, trying to get hold of Scott Law.

The Court’s Conviction
In convicting the Arsenal Fan Scott Law, the Judge said, “I submit that he had been untruthful”. “I am sure Mr. Law assaulted Mr. Keane on 3 September and that assault was deliberate.”
Scoot Law was then barred from attending football matches, ordered to complete 80 hours of unpaid work, and must pay a legal cost of £650 plus a victim surcharge of £114.
